Referring to the Ebay website shown below, I always thought eBay was
basically for resale items. Has it now gone strictly commercial?

Why not reserve a neighborhood for RESALE RC only. If I wanted to buy
retail, I'd go to my local hobby shop. If you buy from a hobby shop, you
can see and feel what you're buying, and if you there is a problem, you
can return it for an adjustment.

eBay has been a store-front for commercial entities for years...

It all depends on the seller I usually wont ask for the defective item
back (unless I think the buyer is pulling a fast one)and I will give a
full refund including postage , but in over 600 sales/purchases I have
had only 3 or so problems that needed refunding

I've dealt with a couple of great sellers like you: one handled my
shipping damage claim and sent me a new fuselage, letting me keep the
damaged but probably usable one, and the other refunded my money and let
me keep the plane. When the radio problem turned out to be simply
mislabeled frequencies, I refunded his refund. ;-) You have to look at
ratings and reviews, and only buy from people with lots of sales and
positives.

I've had over 700 eBay transactions and have noticed that the RC
community is a solid group. RC people by and large have been great and I
don't hesistate to buy. I don't usually buy cars or engines, tho, so
YMMV. IMO, it's better to either buy new or buy used when you can see
what you're getting first.

There are a lot of flakes buying and selling in other categories though.
I've had much worse luck buying and selling in other categories.
