I have hovering in all orientations, forward flight, fast forward flight, piros, and 180 degree stall turns pretty much under control with no problems. I am ready to learn the fun stuff now. My question is: what should be next on my list?
- Inverted flight
- Backwards flight
- Loops and rolls
I have been on the SIM a lot lately trying to do inverted hovering and backwards flight. It is getting frustrating!!! PITA!!! LOL
Anyone have any tips, guidelines or rules of thumb for the flight patterns listed above?
Thanks,
Greg

Inverted flight, because that's another orientation, and I'd think you should follow that with upright backwards/sideways flight, then inverted flight in all directions.
Get crackin:)

I was told that stall turns (180deg) are just intro into loops: you go into vertical, and... just keep going on keeping forward speed (and 0 pitch). And that is a loop! LOL
What I have done, on the other hand, that I have chickened out and when it was upside down I just punched more negative pitch and made a flip... LOL
Even worse - I couldn't have done proper stall turn without much stress until later...
So, practically I did it in this order:
A flip.
A loop.
and then a nice controlled stall turn! LOL

When we are talking about inverted flying on the sim - I have noticed I wasn't doing things in the right order: over there flips are so simple and I learned inverted hover only nose in! LOL. Inverted tail in is still very hard for me to stay in for any longer then couple of seconds or so...

Flips and rolls will help you out learning inverted. When you get comfortable with stationary rolls, you can pause halfway through a roll inverted. When your knees and fingers start to shake, just finish the roll. I got real comfortable with flips and rolls in every direction first, now when I mess up my inverted flight, I can punch out in any direction. Start practicing high to give yourself time to recover.
I know a lot of people say practice on the sim like you're really flying, but sometimes cut loose and get stoopid with it. Pretend it's a video game with a reset button and see what kind of crazy things you can make the helicopter do. I learned to recover from just about any attitude. When anyone says I'm a good pilot, I tell them that I'm a bad pilot, just really good at saving it.
