Looks like it's a bit too late, but this should be in the sailplanes FS/W forum.

Even though I was first in line (10:25 Pvt Msg sent to rnorth), I see this has been sold to someone else. I didn't even get a response to my inquiry.
Thanks a bunch guys, for showing me how it's done!

Well, first of all this should have been posted in the FOR SALE thread. MODERATORS!!!!
Then usually the first one who speaks up with "I'll take it" gets the deal, whether posted or through PM. It is up to the seller to check who responded first. However, not everyone posts. Some just send PM and the deal is invisible to the rest of us.
But sometimes we lose out on a deal and we just have to move on and remember it's just a hobby. It's not worth getting all hot and bothered over, unless of course someone screws you out of $$$ but that's another story....

...Then usually the first one who speaks up with "I'll take it" gets the deal, whether posted or through PM... There are quite a few lengthy threads in the Trader forum on this subject.
I half expected the seller to say he had already sold it. As already mentioned, a PM is invisible and therefore no one has any idea about what may have transacted. For all I knew at the time, greyhound made him an offer for less money.
FWIW, asking questions doesn't hold a place in line...at least when I'm selling.
I usually sell to the first one with cash (PayPal). Some people don't like waiting for money orders or checks because it is more work (time) for the seller. Some will sell to folks they know. Others to folks with a proven trader rating. Some don't give a reason. Bottom line: Regardless of who was "first" the seller has the right to sell to whoever he/she chooses. I didn't make that one up...but I do enjoy that luxury when I sell items. That's just the way it is done here.
No hard feelings?

Sorry for the confusion on my sale to TANK. I saw Greyhound's message which said he was interested ....but at the same time I saw TANK'S message that he would take it for my asking price. I didn't hesitate when I saw that I had a buyer in place. Even though Greyhound's message came first, both responses were on my screen when I got back to my computer.
This was my first sale on rc groups.

No hard feelings, and it was a screaming deal. Guess I'm not familiar enough with the etiquette of dealing on the 'groups. I thought expressing interest was enough to at least guarantee a spot in line, a right of refusal. I don't blame Richard for selling the kit, since it was his first transaction on rcgroups and there were dollars attached to the offer.
Reckon I shouldn't feel too bad, I've got another Genie build started, so it's not like I was going to have time to build a BOT this winter (even in OR) anyway. ;)
