I want to change colors that will requiring piecing in an open bay. Somewhere I read about laying the pieces on a piece of glass and using a trim iron on the seal with about 1/4" overlap in the seam. What temp should the iron be set at?
Also, what about using Monokote Liquid instead of iron?
Thanks

I've done it both ways but prefer the iron. I use a trim iron on the high setting. Put your two pieces together with a 1/4" overlap and tack it at the ends and in the middle. Keep tacking along edge until the seam is tacked all the way across the iron the seam with the trim iron. I've assembled finished panels out of 3 colors this way. Then I apply them to the wing like any other piece of covering. When it comes time to shrink the covering I cover the seam with a 1/2" ruler to protect it from a direct blast with the heat gun. I move it as I go until the whole panel is shrunk on the wing.

The trim solvent works fine too, but its nasty stuff so make sure you've got good ventilation.
Tape one piece to the glass. Tape the next one over it (darker over lighter colors usually) with about a 1/4" overlap. Dip a que tip into the solvent, keep it pretty wet and just paint it where the pieces meet - it'll soak in. Wait overnight and apply the next day like its one piece.
