Hello,
When I set up my King2 to fly and there is a slight problem. The belt seems to be too tight. It slips off the belt roller (left side only) and the main rotors do not spin around much at all after I shut it down. And I noticed that after I ran it that there is alot of black dusty rubber stuff coming off of the belt. Is this behavior normal for break-in,or is the belt way too tight? If it's too tight can anyone please explain in detail on how to losen the tension on the belt because the instructions that came with the copter doesn't explain on how to do it. I think after that first run with the belt the way that it is that I'll have to replace it? PLEASE HELP! Any help is much appreciated!

Hi David,
I don't think you will need a new belt and I think it's an alignment issue more than a tension issue but without being able to see it, it's hard to say.
I never had any belt problems but the belt problem you are having IS common and there have been several ways posted to fix it.
One simple way is to cut a round piece of plastic from a credit card or something similar thickness with a hole punched in the center then putting it above the bearing on the left side as a shim in order to lower the roller so the belt won't jump off anymore.
Another fix is to put in different (wider) rollers with a longer 2.5 x 7mm screw which will give the belt more range to travel.
I think that another way is to adjust pulley by adjusting the set screw(s) (moving it up) so that the belt rides a little bit higher (this way would be more involved).
And finally, the easiest way is to put a plastic wire tie tight and trimmed short (so it won't get in the belt or main gear) on the frame just in front and below the left roller so that the belt can't drop down low enough to come off.

Rusty has a lot of experience with the King 2's and will steer your straight to get your King in tip top shape. The residue from the belt happens on my King 2 as well and i don't see it as a problem unless it is excessive. The way to adjust the belt is to loosen the 4 screws where the tail boom connects..BUT it can be hard to adjust in and out and tighten the screws at the same time, so be sure you have another set of hands to help you before you even attempt that. The belt tension should be about 1mm of play before the roller. You should be able to spin the main rotor and the belt should move smoothly. After you get it all setup and modded with the wire ties (or whatever method you end up going with), before you fly it, put something heavy across the skids so the bird won't lift off, then without getting too close to the blades (keeping hair and clothing away, and wearing safety glasses), spin it up take a look in from the side and watch the belt. If the belt is too loose, you will see it jumping all around. *IF you do adjust the tension of your belt you will most likely have to adjust the fine trim on the controller and/or the gyro for the tail (by moving the tail gyro forward or backwards A LITTLE BIT. Small movements of the tail gyro make a BIG difference in the tail response.
I would advise trying the plastic wire tie fix for the belt first and then see what you think before making any changes to the belt tension. There is a twist in the belt (in the boom) as it heads back to the tail rotor and the belt will loosen a bit with normal use.. and some or all of the frays or particles that you see now could be from the belt coming off the roller.
