Hi Ghost,

Did some more research for the bulwarks, by checking the drawings of Well Enhancer's bulwarks, and found that the frames that are placed 90degree's on the bulwark itself the frame ends on the frame beneath the deck, and when the frame is parallel to the frame's under the deck it is standing on that frame.

Greetings Josse

This little item will eventually become a set of spotlights for Nord Icelandia, mounting 2x LED's only then will it recieve its top coat

just waiting on the LED's to arrive, however I now have a relay switch for them.

The switch is an ACTION ELECTRONICS unit that works like the Robbe unit that is slaved to the A-frame. the only drawback with this, is there is no default ON set up like the robbe, meaning a bypass will be needed for static displays.

Originally I purchased a P69 from Action, however installing it on CH5 I found it didn't work, more operator error as it needs a proportional channel to work :o , (it says in the destructions!). the P43 however WORKS as intended.

Thanks to Dave at Action Kit for the prompt service, orderd wednesday AM posted thursday, arrived and installed friday! now I just need the LEDs to arrive

Hi Ghost,

Isn't it possible to take the -wire on the engine moving the A-frame to the light?
If the engine get's power, the light will burn as well.

Greetings Josse

the current lights are slaved to the A-frame anyway, so that when underway with the A-frame swung forward, (stowed position) and her nav lights are on, (fore mast, upper main mast, stern light, and her side lights), the special ops lights are turned off. as the A-Frame swings out, the special ops lights come on, showing red over white over red, day symbol being ball diamond ball (--O--<>--O--).

the Action kit switch is to control 4 search lights, two located just below the bridge, two located on the roof. her deck lights will be on manual switches just like the primary power for her navigation lights as I have run out of channels!

If I recall right, the A frame is worked directly by a servo. The servo only draws power when the arm is moving, and its motor is inside its case, thus not available. The lights are needed after the motor has moved the arm, as well as when it is moving.

Hi Ghost; The Nord is looking great. You sure are getting all the details on her and it's nice to have a model that has a lot of room for extras like the lights. You've spent a lot of time on this ship and it shows. Good work. Pete

hence the Y-lead spliced to a micro switch.

Norgale, thanks, though space is getting short now

phase2 light complete, and I've planned a couple more extra to go onto phase1.

the spotlights on the ship facing forward are on a radio switch.

Hi Ghost,

Looks very nice with all does lights on :) :) :)

Do you have a message for us?
The signal with the spotlights meant SMS (...--...)
Or did you actually mean SOS (...---...)

Greetings Josse

Thanks Josse.

as for the signal from the search lights, you were right first time as I flashed out S M S. inspired by the text tone of my old nokia phone.

it is run off chan 5 on my radio so can be turned on and off as needed. the lights on the mast are linked in with the a-frame on a Y-lead. so as the frame swings out, the lights come on. This also means that when I turn off the A-frame as the A-frame has its own switch (manual) on its own leg, I can still turn the lights on using chann6, (as long as the phase1 is manually turned on).

"Save me ship" :p

How many lights do you have now Ghost?

Ghost 2501
Feb 18, 2009, 12:01 PM
39!

38 of which are external. the blue light remains internal so when i sail with just phase 1 lit, the supertructure remains lit from inside.

two more are coming for the a frame as well

well her name plate is back on her stand, this time screwed down around its entire perimeter.

complete with RC GROUPS logo and forum name, and ships name across the main section.

:o whoops:o

i have accidentally put ANOTHER light on her,

40 lights now! 39 external 1 internal.

The reason for the single internal light is to allow me to have the superstructure illuminated from the inside when the main deck lights are turned off, and Im just using phase1. Phase2 LED's illuminate the superstructure using the back face of the LEDs

lol... longest running thread on a single model ever! :D

Ghost 2501
Feb 20, 2009, 11:10 AM
im sure there are LONGER threads tom :D

anyway I have decided to lengthen the rudder. the original rudder was only half as deep. this should aid her steering at lower speeds

Having a lorra li'le lites really brings it to life.
If you don't want the farmer to claim his barn door back, you could disguise it by tapering the back end and rounding the leading edge. That might help the steering more as well.

all things to be addressed. see how it handles first, :)

Ghost, If you add any more lights to that thing you are going to need to wear a welding shield just to run her. :D It does look sharp though.

Thanks.

I have directors to go onto the some of the lights, and a couple more to go onto the stern mounted A-frame, then the figures.

Once I rearrange the wiring under the aft deck I may be able to get a few more LED's, not sure if I will be able to make 50 but it'll be nice, I am at 40 right now

well I just tried her with the new barn door of a rudder, and it has made a big difference to the turning circle of the boat, she actually turns now without the need for gunning the outside throttle. Also turns better at lower speeds.

to make Nord Icelandia a bit less viscious at night, after all those lights were quite sharpI have decided to add directors and diffusers to them.

The forward island has directors, the aft section has diffusers. the diffusers are styrene box section, capped at each end and painted black on 5 sides of the 6 sides to the box. this gives a nice glow, to conceal them so they look more realistic, they will be put behind cladding which will get additional paint to prevent bleed-out. at night the diffused areas will look like they have strip lights.

The starboard side will get a deck and a door, or some out riggers for a couple of antenna balls. not decided yet

Nord Icelandia has had a change made to her rig set up, all thanks to a hook from a necklace. she now has multiple attatchment capability, so not only can I tow the side-scan, BUT also dip a sampling unit "medusa" (standing for "Made-in England, Doesnt Usually Sample Anything", quoted by a scientist aboard the Keldish on a National Geographic program.)

Nord Icelandia has got a smaller, lighter battery, a 3300mah NI-mh, ok its smaller than the gel cell in terms of capacty, only by an amp or so, however its also lighter, so the ship seems to go better.
