I'm looking for a kit or plans for Debolt livewire super cub. I started building one in 1954 or 1955 when I was 14 or 15 years old. I never finished it and to this day I have regret it. I would like to try to build this plane. If I can get the plans from AMA, please tell me how to do it. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Kimbell
PS, I hope i've spelled Debolt correctly.

Am not familiar with the Super Cub by DMECO. If it got in to production, from DeBolt, it became a DMECO kit then. I obtained a list of known models kitted by DeBolt, plus many of the one off designs, and the Super Cub does not show. Perhaps you are thinking of the Champ (or Champion or Controlaire) for it was kitted at about same time as you mention.
No kits are available at present time. I had Bob Holman laser cut up some parts for a Semi-kit back three years ago. The subsequent model made it in to Model Aviation magazine. He is selling parts and a copy of plans for the DMECO Champ. Original plans can be obtained from Fran In Tonawanda N.Y. as he has many which never made it in to a box. A friend to Fran now has a web-site (URL unknown) and is pushing many of the controlliner plans once offered. However, send a message there and you ought to get a responce then. Bob Holman, same too, for he just has too many A/C old and new to list.
Oh, I got the original drawings for many of the aircraft that Hal worked upon out in the back room. Not for the Champ, but do for the Controllaire which became the six channel version of the Champ a year later.

Six channel, as in left-right, up-down, high-low throttle, I presume. In other words, six channel reed radio?
By the way, I seem recall that there was a Cub kit for while. I never built either the Cub (if there was one) or the Champ, but I still have the DeBolt Rebel I built in 1961. Originally powered by an Enya 09 and with a single channel radio, it flew away on its first flight and was lost for about two months. With new silk and dope covering, an OS 15 and a radio that worked, it was revived a few years later and became the trainer for my son and numerous other people. I think it's about time to give it yet another lease on life.
Cheers.

The Champ and the Cub came out at about the same time and were very similar.

If you go to AMA aircraft plans list and look under the leter "L", page18 of 32, plan number 24029, yoy will find the"livewire super cub, for $27.00. Do I just call AMA on the phone, how does one go about this? Maybe not very many were made, or kitted. Boy, is kitted a real word? Thanks for the replies.
Thanks,
Kimbell

Read the first paragraph again. Says 1954 to 1955. The one you guys may remember was kitted ten years later on.

Fran in Tonawanda N.Y. has original kit plans for the Livewire Cub as well as most other DMECO kit plans.
The Cub is very similar to the Champ but not as popular.

Keeping the DeBolt them alive, Does anybody have or fly a DeBolt Trainer or Cruiser? I have one of each and have been thinking of cleaning them up and installing 3 channel r/c electric. Anybody with similar interests? Jim

I had a Livewire Trainer about 80% scrachbuilt when we moved. Movers dropped a box full of books on it--Always planned to rebuild it with e-power. We'll see how that goes

Last weekend I was going through some old MAN's and saw an ad for both the Champ and Cub with pic's of both. The wing area and span were the same. Looking back and forth it appeared the only difference was the shape of the tail surfaces. The fuselages only differed in the paint scheme. Maybe since they were so close in construction it didn't pay to offer different versions so DeBolt dropped the Cub. Same price too. Jim

Back when I started RC, my dad and I were looking for a deBolt Champ to build and fly. the Champ wasn't available but the Cub was. Same airplane, different tail, both flew the same.

Jim,
Not electric i'm afraid but here are a couple of shots of my Livewire Senior. Three channel R/C and powered by an Enya SS30. Flies great.
