mcgillhobbysupply.com is now up and running. I also have some more items to add to it this weekend.
This site is not set up with shopping carts and paypal or creditcards yet. This all costs extra each month and each one takes a cut of the sale. I can't even raise a price to cover the surcharge as the more the order is the more they charge me for the privelege of doing business. So in order to keep prices down and expenses down here's what to do.
When you want to order something just email the order to pete@mcgillhobbysupply. I will pick, pack and weigh the order and send you back the total. Then you will have to send me a check or money order and I will send your order. Checks take awhile to clear so money orders are the best as that is instant payment and allows immedeate shipping. As soon as I can I will set up PayPal and I think then you can use your credit cards to order. I'll have to let you know how that works when I find out myself.
All orders will be shipped in mailing tubes so the lumber won't be bent and/or broken. The tubes are reusable so save them if you want. They cost .60 each my cost and that is included in the shipping total. With my price structure I can't afford to send them for free. They are cheaper to ship than a box so there is some savings there to offset their cost.
So lets see how this goes and if you have any suggestions or questions don't hesitate to email them to me. Pete

Pete, the way Paypal works is that they take about a 3% cut of the total paid to you. It's the cost of using their service.

Hey guys. Thanks Scott. Maybe this will help some. Like Kmot says PayPal takes 3% of the total amount and then Yahoo Hosting takes 1,5% plus a $50 set up fee and something like another $50 a month and the credit card company gets anothe r 1.5 or so. It ain't cheap to start this stuff up by any means. Maybe when I get all the things that are available to me on my site including the balsa wood then there will be all the boat builders and all the airplane guys as prospective customers. The more I have to sell the better chance of making a sale. It just takes time to build it so I'm working on it. Also you will see some different prices for the same items on the website. Thats because I got a better price on the second order. You pay the lowest price at all times. Pete

Those hosting fees seem exhorbitant. Maybe you should look into opening an ebay store? Then all you pay is the listing and final value fees.

Thanks Kmot. You pay a final value fee yes but that doedn't include paying for the order.Tha'ts extra unless you pay by MO and snail mail. I'll be looking into things like that but so far I have yet to make the first sale so things will have to look a lot more promising than so far before I can afford to expand the site.
However this has just started and I need a lot more stock so I have a long way to go. I'll be able to save big bucks on kits too as I go along but all in due time. Pete

A ebay store may be a good way to go...something to look into, good exposure. To save big bucks on boat kits, my minimum order to the distributor was $5000.00...time to come up with Plan B

They must not have wanted your business. I've never heard of such a high minimum unless it was a manufacturer setting you up as a distributor. Then I could see it so you'd have a good cross section of their products. For a distributor that's way out of line. Pete

Maybe different distributor polices north of the border.
