This is the second somewhat expensive item I've gotten from Tower recently that someone else used and sent back. Obviously all they do is put it back on the shelf and wait for the next fish to order one. Now I have to pay shipping back and wait weeks for the replacement. Bad business practice. :censored:

What was the item and problem?

MidWest steam engine. Brass exhaust stack has scratches and water spots, knurled fill cap has deep plier marks on it, brass flywheel has scratches all around it. Parts loosely thrown in the box.
Very aggravating.
If that's their policy maybe on my next order I'll send back a box of rocks and get a refund. :D :D

They obviously screwed up (some flunky in the parts return dept) and it shoudl have gone to "Scratch and Dent" dept.
In 30 years (off and on) of ordering from Tower Hobbies I have never received a returned item as a 'new purchase'.

In the past I have defended them when someone starts ranting about how terrible they are. This is my first real problem. Even I made a mistake once but I don't remember what it was. However I do think they should pay return shipping when it's their fault.

They will pay return shipping. They have sent me defective items (mfg defect) before and so they send me a "call tag" when I ask them too.
Also, sometimes I have returned things that I changed my mind about and didn't want and just paid the shipping to return it and without asking they have credited my account.
You will probably get some sort of credit.

I am over 25 years dealing with Tower on a regular basis, and I have found if there is a order/item problem it is corrected very quickly, also if I receive a broken/defective item, return postage is paid from Canada. I hope it works out for you..420TT

Write on the box somewhere with a big black marker...
Returned:Parts Scratched and used....
I have done that with phone batteries, as I have gotten several bad ones sent consecutively by my service provider.
