Going to glass a fuse for a 40 sized Sig P51. My question is how many layers of what weight glass to glass with, and what resin?
I'm getting this plane second hand, setup per the plans are either R/C or control line (will be R/C). The problem is, it has a published weight of 4.5 lbs..........it weighs right in at 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy was not a light builder!! So the plan is to glass the current fuse (Lost plug method) but I'm unsure as to what glass weight and how many layers to use as well as resin (polyester fine?).
The builder was good as far as straight and true...just liked to use too much glue! lol.

Lost plug method? You are going to glass over the fuse as it is already built then strip all the wood out?

Yes, exactly.

Good luck there. Lost plug method is easiest with a foam fuse as a little bit of acetone or melts the foam out.

Wood will soak the resin up very nicely and you will have a hell of a job breaking the timber out.

You might be OK to pull a mold off a covered fuse if you are really careful about sealing it with wax and PVA. You could also make a urethane or silicone mold and not have to worry so much about the plug sticking.

I've used this method with a boat before with great success, little bit of Mothers Paste Wax and smart planning of sections it goes pretty smooth.
