If I may, why do you ask about Balboa Park?
Because at the end of October I will be going to SD for an overnight stay and will be also going to Balboa Park to see the Dead Sea Scrolls and if there were model boats allowed I would sneak down a boat without my wife knowing until it was too late! :D

I have not gone and done the dead Sea Scrolls thing yet. I was going to let the crowds of summer die down first, but I better get on it soon. By all means sneak a boat down. I'll run with you if I am available. :)

Mission Bay rc boat pond is close to Balboa Park, but it is salt water.

There are other choices for boats that are not salt water. :) Most of the locals go to the salt pond.

Are you going to do anything else like the Maritime Museum, Midway, etc?

Yes, both actually. We are meeting friends down there and going to all three venues.

Steve Vick runs his Type II U-Boat in the salt water at the model yacht basin and even ran it around in the area just aft of the Star of India and the HMS Surprise last Oct., there is a place where you want to make sure everything works right. Salt water increases your maintenence headaches but if you have the decipline to do the maintenence, you should not have too many problems.

That's great Kmot that you have locals to show you around San Diego.

The Midway is getting better every year, opening up more areas as they get restored. I have had a year pass since the beginning.

I was told by the Curator that the Maritime Museum has so many models that some only come out for viewing once every 10 years. They are stored away in a warehouse somewhere. I was there about 3 months ago, and the models that were out for viewing were just incredible.

I have the pirate flag, but don't know the first thing about pirate talk. I guess I had better change it, or learn the talk! Aarrgghh. :D
