My son got a Turmoil R/C car for his birthday, but it didn't work. He was quite upset about it so I took it back to Radio shack and found it was only $9.95 new. It is discontinued and stores are dumping them for nothing. They swaped it for another and since they were so cheap I bought another one as a spare(to be mine). The car is a three wheeler with an extra set of drive wheels that rotate around the back wheels. My son is only 3, considering I let him handle the take-offs of my R/C planes and fly at > 100 feet, its not really much of a stretch for him. He doesn't really grasp the concept of steering much, but we have had a blast with these. He grabs mine and puts it in some sort of bad terrain( inside a cabinet, under a pile of clothes, in a box of toys...) and I have to get it out without touching it. It really quite fun for me and he just jumps up and down laughing. He also tries to ram his car into mine( which I painted differently) , which I make briefly available in front of his car when we are driving in the kitchen floor. The cars are self righting and can pretty much get out of anything including tall grass by 'walking' with the extra wheels. The car does not 'drive' well at all though so don't expect to drive it around with any real control. It will spin around very fast with only one button so that is my sons big trick:) It also makes it nearly impossible to point in a specific direction without alot of retrys. I'm amazed at how fast it is for an electric. Batteries last a pretty long time too, roughly 30 minutes.
We have had a blast with them. We also have R/C trucks, motorcycles, boats and planes. This car is by far my 3 year old's favorite. And for 9.95 + batterys, it is much cheaper than any of his (my) other R/C toys.
Have fun... They are at Radio Shack.
