My grandpa used to be into rc planes but now he has a hard time standing and seeing the planes. I thought for X-mas I could get him a boat. what would you recomend? I would like to get him a scale electric model. either a navy ship or a chriscraft or even a sail boat but it would be nice if it was prebuilt or easy to build and not super expensive. I don't know anything about model boats so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

moving to boats gives you a whole scope, billings with their plank on frame, (Plank on Frame is not really for beginners), Graupner, Robbe, Model Slipway.

One good start, especially of you are used to Airfix 1/72 plane kits such as their Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire planes, is the Flower Class Corvette, originally designed as a static by Matchbox (and now Revel), there have been many examples of them converted to RC.

Comming more modern are the Tamiya ships such as their 1:350 Yamato, Iowa, Nimitz, Enterprise etc, though small they do get converted to RC using small plane equipment.

one good kit that is easy to build is the Graupner Neptun, and with some working in Plasticard could lend itself to being turned into a naval survey ship.
