After about 5 years away from RC, I've decided to resume flying. I used to fly glow fuel powered waterplanes, and still have my good old ACE SEADANCER. After reviewing this website I see electric powerplants have advanced significatly. I think I will be going electric with my new plane. I REALLY like the SEAWIND, but it is a little on the small side compared to what I am (was) used to flying. I've noticed that Great Planes has a 60 sized glow fuel ARF in the seawind that is a fiberglass and balsa. My question is, would it be feasible to convert the 60 sized Seawind over to electric, or if I want a plane of this size will I have to stick with glow power?

Will, Here is a link to my E-Conversion of the 60 size Seawind.

It's not cheap, but it flies better than the gas version because it's much lighter. I just finished a review of the little Seawind EP and it really is fun to fly. Should be published here on RCGroups later this week. Some folks look down their nose at a "Foamy", but this one is really nice and it flies great. If you think you might want to try the big version, I'd recommend you get the small one and learn how to take it off before you tackle the big one.

Mike,
Thats one beautiful airplane! Thanks for the link. It does look like a handful at takeoff. Since it's been a few years since I've flown, I think I'll take your suggestion about starting with small Seawind.
Thanks,
William

Wise choice. In the mean time, consider getting one of these trainers from 3D Hobby Shop:

It's easy to start with, and it can really perform if you turn up the rates. Watch Ben's videos for a real treat.
If you decide on one of these, call Ben and tell him to give you a combo deal.

He's got a setup for $300 that includes the plane, motor, esc, and four servos. For an additional $45 he's got a great Lipo battery pack.
Welcome back to a great hobby and have a Blessed Day.
