I hope that all of you come to this great event in Visalia, CA this Oct!
I talked with the Beer Garden Man the other day and it's going to be bigger and better than last year. He did say bring a cup! I got mine (48oz).
I am working on the Stars and bars Marauder for a raffle prize!
Saturday night flying is the best!
Hope to see you there.

Yeah Jim, that definitely factored in to the decision.
We had a "wardrobe malfunction" a few nights ago. At 3 AM our overloaded closet shelf/rod brackets pulled out of the wall and emptied their contents onto the floor. While digging through the aftermath I discovered a ten year old Visalia T shirt from the last FSF I attended. Once every ten years is probably all you guys want to see me out there, so I get to come play again this year.
I'll be bringing plenty of fundage for "ice"

I''l be coming to Visalia. The las time I was there was 1996, and I'll be flying the same planes! They're out of date and heavy, but I'm just coming for fun and to see everyone.

Alas, the beer swilling will likely be disallowed by the boss. After a hard day of watching me and everyone else fly, she'll be ready for a proper sit-down dinner at a nice restaurant. The price I pay, I suppose, for a gal who doesn't mind my playing with model airplanes. :D

I heard that the landing this year is a 1-inch spot, In or Out, ZERO flight points for a miss. Your timer cannot count down and you have to be blindfolded and facing away from the spot as well.
It just seems to get tougher every year!!!

I think they decided against the blindfold and will allow the use of a mirror as long as you land inverted.
From what I understand the landing will be 3 circles going from large to small, kind of like the triangle they used to use.

Sep 20, 2007, 04:18 PM

I just got an update from a reliable source who tells me that I had it all wrong. It is in fact a series of circles that look like crime scene tape outline around a snowman laying on his (her?) side.
Your timer can count down for you, in Russian, and you must turn your transmitter off when you cross the berm over the grass.
Amusingly enough we will likely not notice a real difference in the quality of most of the arrivals under these circumstances.
Next year there will be a lottery to choose the top 10 who will then do Paper-Scissors-Rock to determine the winner. Then we'll drink beer the rest of the weekend!!!

Looking forward to my second Visalia contest. Hopefully I'll do better than 140th, but the beer may have had something to do with the last result (not!). I've been flying for only 4 years, but this is the best event I have ever attended. The beer garden was definitely a great plus to this event. Hope to see everybody there. I will hopefully make a few new friends. I love this hobby!
