Guys I just got my self a super fly from superfly.com
I love it! It's my first real RC plane and I love it! But I would like something significantly smaller and slower to tool around with in my back yard (50mX100m). Are there any small low speed wings out there?
And if so could you recomend any? A major + if they are made of that EPP stuff!
Thanks!

Try the MSComposite SwiftII or the Mini Swift .They fill the bill nicely for a slow backyard flyer.

my suggestion is to order some epp, buy some carbon rod and make your own. light gear large elevons and have fun. deltas are super easy. i find that a delta similar to a superfly, with plenty of wing span can slow down nicely. more sweep/less wingspan makes them faster and more responsive.
me and my buddy adam built some out of blue core directly copying a ritewing. he had a nippy motor and 1320 3s and i had a bp el cheapo motor and they both flew awesome. slow and steady or semi fast as we would combat each other. of course bluecor is no epp substitute.

I have a great little slow wing that is much like the old slofly wings. I took some epp cores from the prodigy 30" model on RCWorks.com. Then put a little cdrom motor in the back, two hs-55's, and a 2 cell 730. I use a 6x5 gws slowfly prop. A little depron for the ailerons. No carbon spar. Just hot glued together. It's great, I fly it out back of the condo. nice and slow, small, tracks well too. You need to keep it really light with whatever direction you go...mine is like 5 oz or close to that. I did have the mini swift but it requires more speed than this one I made. I wanted slower and closer in. I actually used the same components on both.

It all comes down to wing loading, lift and drag. A bigger plane with lighter wing loading will fly slower than a smaller plane with higher wing loading. An oz or two additional wing loading makes a major difference. Larger planes tend to be more stable. Tiny planes can fly well but they need to be ultra light to fly ultra slow.

Yes,thats it.There are some build threads on here showing how to modify so that the servo control arms exit on top of the plane so you dont strip servos when landing.

I'm with Punkrockd, a delta makes a great small space flyer. I've posted this video before, but like it so much....here it is again: ;-)

Did you cover it with tape or is it just the bare EPP? I'm guessing no tape since that adds pretty significant weight. Cool idea, I might have to try that.
Thanks.

No covering, just some sharpie artwork. It's pretty peppy too. my cdrom motor is an old M-A-E blue one that has been rewound to 15 turns. It'll do vertical when asked, and gets plenty of speed.
I really need to post some pics or make a thread...

plus a delta can benefit from the thrust over the elevons to really slow it down and still maintain control. high alpha is really fun.

Nice variation on the Superfly. Did you make any type of airfoil, or is it just flat EPP on the body?
thanks...arniep

Hi shah269,
The Mini SpeedWing EX was specifically designed as a small (24" wingspan) slow flyer for tight spaces. Take a look at SPEEDWING.NET (http://www.speedwing.net/mini-speedwing-ex-p-296.html) and get more info and video.

I'm thinking mayber super flea
Wingspan: 22 inches
Length: 17 inches
Weight RTF: 5.3-6.3 oz
or the hyper flea?
Wingspan: 22 inches
Length: 18.75 inches
Weight RTF: 6.5-6.9 oz.
I just bought a super fly and I love it! I'm hoping for a plane thats about half the speed of the super fly.

I have the superflea and although I haven't tried high alpha yet, it does fly pretty slow and is difficult to stall (likes to go inverted out of a delta stall)
I am very pleased with it!

Yah it's a great plane, especially for a total noob like my self!
And the fact that I can't kill it helps things out! But there is no way in hell you could fly that in a baket ball court or a tennis court! It's too big and way too fast!
But at 1/3rd of a pound...should be slow! Right?

the superfly is much more stable. it also is awesome for super slow flying.
i have both a flea and fly.

LLoo, I just about fell out of my seat watching thye end of that video! Awesome. I have been there man, many a times, especially with my helis. Nice job btw.
(Arnie, sorry about the PM, after I sent it I saw your post ;-) We need to fly soon and get some great video like LL's!!!)
