I'm going dove hunting with my dad and bro along with a friend this weekend, and then pheasant hunting in November.

Anyone else going ?

I've got a pig hunt lined up in November; up in the King City area.

Hunting: a sign that evolution may not be present in all gene pools...Such as in Oregon.

I gotta get back out one of these days. I haven't hunted since I got back to California after 22 years in Washington State. I have a .44mag Winchester M94 and a 310gr gaschecked hardcast with some big ole boar's name onnit.
Keep me advised on how the hunt goes, DT. :)

I hunted paper targets today, about 150 rounds worth of .380 and 9mm. BIG fun.
Ordered a Ruger MK III SS slabside with 6&7/8" barrel also, more fun!!!!!!!!!! Chris

Just curious....but when you eat the doves that you kill....do they taste like chicken?

Mark,

a buddy of mine won a raffle while he was down your way buying about $3000 in guns (don't ask). The prize was a "guided" hunt worth $500; includes the guide service, taking any pig not considered "trophy" size (that would cost an additional $200), field services and butchering, etc. He didn't want to go alone and asked me to come along as his guest. I have the option to also take a pig, or just to record his hunt on film for posterity's sake. ;) I'm still debating whether to pay the $500 and bag a boar as I'm not much for these "canned" hunts; they're pretty much a sure thing. I understand they walk you right up to where these things drink and root around and then they point out one and tell you to drop it; not much challenge. I may just go along as the camera man this time and for backup in the event we get charged; I'll most likely be carrying my 44 Desert Eagle. ;)

Kit,
Not aimed at me but, it's been a looooong time since I went dove hunting, but from what I can remember, the breast is the only thing you eat, and it tastes like duck, or super rich dark meat(turkey)???? Chris

I am smarter than most of the posters here. I raised a son who is an excellent hunter, diver, spear-fisher. He is also in a business where hunting trips are one of the best ways to woo clients or thank backers.

He estimates that only 10% of the protein they consume comes from the store. The rest is "gathered".

In addition to being smart, I am SOOOO LUCKY.........and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD.....

Hunting was fantastic today! We all got our limit of 10 each out in Palmdale. There were plenty of birds, but only about 1/4 of what they are in Arizona from what my buddy told me. We hunted from about 6-9:30. Nothing like being outdoors, enjoying the fruit of God's creation, and spending time with your friends.

Kit, I've never had dove before, but will be having it tonight or tomorrow night, so will let you know what it's like.

We cleaned them ourselves. Feathers all over the place!

Going to marinade them tomorrow and have some dove for dinner! :)

Let us know how they taste.
Look kind of little, no wonder you're allowed ten. :p
