Does anyone paint pilots?

I have a Iron Aces pilot for a WWI plane I have and I just can not paint the pilot right. Is there anyone that paints pilots?

I had never painted a pilot and had great success just following these instructions.

I did try(with those instructions) and my success was less then great. A clown would be how my pilot was turning out. I have never been a detail type of modeler, I can paint a plane ok but the pilot is a bit more detail then I can deal with.
