Hi Heli People,
I have been messing with the FMS (simulator) software, specifically flying the various helicopter models. Can anyone out there who has actually flown "real" rc choppers and tried FMS give me an opinion of the reality / accuracy of the simulation.
From the control point of view I have been using an old Dave Brown twin stick into joystick port controller.
I can successfully hover, transition into and out of level flight etc on the sim (including on the twitchy models) and I was wondering if my new found abilities would translate to fewer crashes if I bought the real thing.
I'm all ears !

I do not have the FMS sim but I have the older version of GP Real Flight. It does help to get the thumbs into doing what they need to do. It does shorten the learning curve to some degree. There is still a big pucker factor when flying the real R\C helicopter. I can fly inverted, flips, rolls, piro flips, and any other trick I can think of on the sim. But when I am flying my real one I have a pucker that keeps me from doing the same tricks at the lower altitudes I do them on the sims.

I think dru said it all, the pucker factor is what will get you every time. Time on a simulator will save you alot of money in the long run(you should get a good one, they are worth the money).

I feel the fms is good for orientation and the cobra sounds good other than that it is a joke. It is way too easy.
I own a Dave brown rcfs V4 it has its own 4 axis joystick , even though the graphics are entry level it was invaluable for my learning curve.
I had a loan of a friends Real Flight G2 one word AWESOME
When I have the spare cash I will buy one to practise on,
I reccomend you don't delay as it will save you several crashes but make sure you try hard as not to stack it to keep the exersize realistic at least.

I also have Real Flight G2 and after many hours on the sim I was able to hover my first flight without a problem. By the third flight I was in foreword flight and now after about 10 flights I am fully capable of nose in hover, loops, rolls, pinwheels, flips, and marginal inverted. Granted, I have MANY hours on the simulator, but what a wonderful way to learn helicopters.
The major difference I have noticed between the sim and the real thing is that it's much easier to become disoriented with a real heli because of differing light conditions and sky color.

T.J.

I have G2 with addons 3, and just FYI when I installed addons 3, the helicopters started to behave much more like a real helicopter with reguards to autos.... (somethin was tweaked in that addon, and it was important)
