Hello Suresh,

Your version of the Horizon software for the 2028g is probably newer than mine. In February of 2005 I sent a similar question to MicroPilot technical support. At that time you had to have a special Horizon "plug-in" to add the capability of using a joystick to control the servos (see copies below of my emails with MicroPilot support). But perhaps your newer version of the Horizon software already has this incorporated into it? MicroPilot did supply me with the "plug-in" software for this but I lost it before I had a chance to try it out and I have not yet paid to renew my tech support yet which is needed to get another copy of the plug-in.

I would be very interested to hear if you are able to get this to work on your system and appreciate any tips and hints on doing this.

Subject: How to use USB joystick to control airplane?

Hello Chris or anyone in support,

We would like to be able to use a USB joystick connected to a laptop
to function like the Futaba 72 MHz hobby transmitter to control
the ariplane in flgiht. However, it is not clear how to do this from the
manual and website FAQs. Is there a way to do this primitive mode
(something similar to the RPC and PIC modes)?

Hello John,

As of right now, there is no way to have "direct" servo control of the
servos. We are currently working on a Horizon plug-in which will allow
this, but it is still not ready for release.

The features available in the Joystick tab in the Navigation box allow
for control of target values; target heading, target altitude, and
target speed. Note these do not allow for direct control of the servos.

Dear Mr. Elliot,

Before I can release the plug-in to you I must ask you provide me with
your autopilot serial # to ensure you are still eligible for software
updates. Can you please provide me with this #. This is located on the
back of the autopilot board in the form of "04-XXX".

Anybody can help me?I have been setting up the MP2028 but i face a huge problem.Already six with i tried to interface a joystick with the autopilot but i failed.
This were the steps i have taken.
1) Create a new VRS.file and Transmit to the autopilot sytem. The file have servos adjustment and stated aileron 1 elavator 2 and so n so
2) After sending i reboot the autopilot.
3) Than i receive back all the information from the autopilot.
4) ** I adjust the joystick part by defining Servo#1 for airleron and Servo#2 for elavator and so and so.This is my main problem do i define correctly the servos#?
5) I have change the mode to fr0m UAV to RPV mode and it function for button that doesnt involve the servos,
6)Even the gyros response to the movement of the UAV as seen in the horizon software screen by pressing the button on the joystick i use.
7)I dont no what to assign n how to make the joystick react with the servos.
Please help me if anybody knows how to solve this problem as i am running out of time while this business i am doing will cause me millions of dollar.

there are very few people here that use this autopilot. The lecturer should know any feature == money with this autopilot. That's one reason that I didn't fight to get my boss to buy it.

Hello Suresh,

Do you have the optional Horizon software plug-in that supports the function for joystick control of the servos?

Is your MP2028g new enough to still be covered under the MicroPilot initial tech support period? Or has your business or institution paid for the continued tech support from MicroPilot?

[QUOTE=Suresh]Hello everybody,
The millions dolar stuff is just a joke, this is actually one of a project given to me but i cant solve it.However if i cant solve means i will get an E and that will cause my career blown in future and that cause me a millions of dollar. If it really cant have direct control than why there is joystick setting.I really dono how to explain to my lecturer as i take a short cut to ask in a forum which is really an unethical move.If i say it cant control than what is the proof.Oh my god what can i do, i just can wait and pray.

Hello again Suresh,

I do not think I know enough to help you. All I know was what I was told by the technical support engineer at MicroPilot when I asked a similar question about direct servo control using the joystick back in 2005. At that time the MicroPilot support person said that you cannot do the direct servo control via joystick and that the joystick was intended only for manipulating the Horizon menus. But the support person did say that they were developing a software plug-in (a kind of software add-on patch module) that would do this. A few months later the MicroPilot support person emailed me this software plug-in as a file name "joystick.exe". Unfortunately, I was busy on another project and neglected to retrieve it from the quarantine area (all .exe files I receive by email are quarantined) and the network support people at my place of work deleted it. So I never actually got to try out this plug-in with my 2028g. I hope to get back to it soon but MicroPilot support says that if I want to get a new copy of the plug-in I will have to pay for another period of tech support. So I plan to wait until I have some free time and can maximize my use of the paid support before I get back to my 2028g project again.

I do not know whether or not it is possible to do direct control of the servos with the joystick without this plug-in. But judging by my conversation with the MicroPilot tech support person I doubt it is possible. However, MicroPilot may be including this joystick capability with their newer versions of Horizon (my Horizon was last updated in 2005). But if the newer Horizon software does not have this capability and you do not have the plug-in file joystick.exe then what you are trying to do may be impossible.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Dear John Eliott,
Please help me.
Actually i am engineering student given this project to solve, recently i choose a problem solving final year project.N i am in deep problem now.If my project does'nt work means i gono get an E an my future will be ruin cos i really scored a good grade until now n it will pull down my grade very much eventually.
The software is horizon n i have both MP2028 and Mp2000 autopilot system.
I dont no really whether the tech support have been paid or not.
I was just given the online file and was ask to setup the joystick setting and make the servos move.
I have no direct contact to the autopilot manufacturer.I have their e-mail but would not send them a msg as if i send and my lecturer knows, thats all i will be failed.
I have the horizon software but about the plug-in i dont have any idea.
Is it it is a device or a software.
I have a usb joystick n there is button assignment that i can assign to the controller.I have assign button 1 as toggle mode and it works when i am changing from UAV to RPV.
And i assign the #1 for the aileron n so n so but the servos doesnt works.
What will u suggest me.
Q
Do you have the optional Horizon software plug-in that supports the function for joystick control of the servos?
A
Please help me with the plug-in.I mean can u describe more detail on it.
I really appreciate ur help.
