Hi Guys,

this

http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/products/airplanedetails.php?airplaneid=172

caught my eye.

What motor would one use for such a beast?

Outrunners preferred.

Thanks,

Gigawatt

Thats a nice beast!

Fast calulating, 5kw 24+" prop, 12s+, maby try to spin a scale prop !? would be nice on a scale plane like this.

I dont' think one would need anywhere near 5kw to fly this plane.

5kw on a 28 lb. plane is 178W/lb. A bit much perhaps.

I'm going to be flying my 12' Telemaster on 1500W and I'm sure it could fly on much less.

If it were me, I would fly it on a Astroflight cobalt 90 with a belt drive, but of course that's not an outrunner.

Beautiful, well made and available at Esprit Model.com as a ARF

They're recommending either an AXi5330-24 for Good performance or a Hacker C50-14XL for Better performance.

DPM make a standard and Clipped Wing version. I had one of Clipped Wings (got it from ZB at Esprit) and it is a really nice flying plane although more acro focused than the standard wing. The standard wing has flaps as well. You can't go wrong with either of them.

That 1/3 Cub does look nice, but why oh why do they cover it in film and not tex? 3kW would be more than enough and I bet it'd fly very scale-like on a lot less! If I could fit it in my car, I'd buy one!

Hey Megawatt,

I know that the Dave Patrick one is cooler looking,
but 88 inches is a bit conservative :_)
The 140 inch wsp of the ARF is pretty attractive to me and all the hinging is
done, the overall pre-fab level is very high.

Cheers,

The World Models Super Cub doesn't look very scale to me. Looks like they have just grafted on a Super Cub cowl, and added flaps to their J-3. The tail feathers are definitely J-3. The rudder is more straight at the trailing edge, and there are no balancers on the elevator. Also the skylight in the top of the cabin is still small, as in a J-3. It's probably a nice flying model, but they could have done better in converting it to a Super Cub.
