Aaarrrghhh---! So many crappy boat kits, so little patience---.
You know, Boatman, there were too many to list here, each with it's shortcomings, that I started to produce my own---. ;)

I wouldn't recommend any Kyosho Nitro Powered boat, I had the Heatwave Catamaran. The .18 stock motor fried. New OS 15 worked great. Shredded the U joint. Cracks on the PLASTIC motor mount! The boat was fun to run when operational, but was hard to keep up with.

Dumas Whitehall. Kit so-so, directions terrible.

Yet to have a real bad 'un. Most of my failures have been my fault for either being too optimisic about converting for control, or thinking that I "knew better" than the designer.

The worst boat I have ever tried to get running well is the Kyosho Blue Streak 800. Out of the box with all stock equipment it was a complete pig. It took relocating the battery, and moving from the 550 can motor to a massive Mega motor to get the thing to run right.

The Old Steerling Missouri Kits were quite crappy, But I did manage to get it built through total determination.

Lots of Kyosho boats mentioned!
I bought a Hydro-Jet 750 hydro for my kid from Tower Hobbies sight unseen. While putting it together I wondered how they could charge so much for this piece of :censored: . It ran poorly even with attempted mods to it. The second one would have had to be the Hobbico Top Speed, the original before the Aquacraft Top Speed 2.
I was desperate for a new .21 OB tunnel as my wife tore up a DPI 3.5 at a race so I needed another boat ASAP. The LHS had one on sale so I grabbed it up. The engine was mounted with sheet metal screws into the ABS plastic hull. The radio box was a joke and the hull flexed badly. The design of the sponsons was nice as it looked like they were taken from a much better boat but that was it. I all but gave that hull away!

Not Kyosho bashing,but....... I had a Bladerunner-P.O.S chewed up the dog on the outdrive after very little use, poor speed, lousy prop.
It went in the bin after i got the Riviera

My worst kit was a Sterling schooner America. The wood was awful, much of it did not survive their diecutting; many parts were splintered, cracked or busted and some of the plywood had cavernous voids. Some builders I met said they only used Sterling kit parts as patterns. I did like the plans/directions sheets, however. The hardware was also OK.

Not all Kyosho boats are lousy. I also have a Kyosho Speed Vee and a Stream Liner. Both of those boats perform excellently and are very enjoyable.

The only Kyosho boat I own is a mid 80's "Riviara" sailboat and I got a lot of enjoyment out of it- The hull is a composite of foam/ABS and slightly on the delicate side but it always performed well fo me! :)

I wouldn't say that all of the Kyosho boats are trash as I've seen a couple that ran quite well! I don't know of any RTR boat company that hasn't put out a dud or two in their time.
BTW, CEN Racing also uses a lot of Kyosho parts on their boats or vice-versa.

I would have to say that the BIGGEST piece of junk so far has to be my HMS KENT. The picture of it looked on Ebay but when I got it Holy :censored: The thing smelled of mold, ended up ripping the deck off to clean it out. The stuffing tubes were too big, bent and out of alignment. The "planked" hull looked to be hacked out with a hatchet and not true. The superstructure was made out of blocks of wood that were never sanded between coats leaving grain and fuzz showing. So the boat sits in a dark corner of the basement, it's future unknown.....

Thats the Deans Marine kit, right Greenboat? I've alway wanted one of these as I love armoured cruisers. Sounds like alot of the problem was with the original builder. What catagory did you look on Ebay to find it? I've have NO success finding large scale RC type ships.

Tim,
More than likely I found it on http://toys.listings.ebay.com/Boats-Watercraft_Battery-Operated_W0QQfclZ3QQfromZR12QQsacatZ2564QQsocmdZLi stingItemList It is what I have bookmarked. I can't remember when I got it but I know it has been a while.
As to who made it, I don't know. When I tore off the deck and superstructure there was no numbers or markings on any of the pieces that would have indicated that it was from a kit.

On ebay in uk large scale type RC boats are listed under
Toys & Games > Radio-Controlled > Boats/ Hovercraft > Boats/ Hovercraft
But may be different where you are.

Hands down the Dumas Bluefish sub kit. Started out with the hull halves not being the same length and spiraled in from there. May make a shelf model out of it or give it a Viking funeral.
