Are you aware of this ?? (http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=111)
Version 5.04 will not function without the new USB interface. It appears that 5.04 ships with the new dongle and I suspect you are not able to download it.
All the best
Barry
Directly from their site................
New Slimstick USB 79.00EUR
The new slimstick USB interface is campatible to the new iVol technology and can be used as a joystick as well. This way it can be used with all kinds of games using a joystick input like Microsoft Flightsimulator, X-Planes and many more.
The order will be executed only after receipt of your old interface. We only need the interface. No invoices, no cables, no CD's. Please select the cable you need to connect your radio As before you can get additional cables if you need them and they just plug into the back of the slimstick interface.
The new slimstick interface will work with Reflex XTR version 5.04 or later and it will not work with earlier versions. Future Reflex XTR versions will be compatible to this new interface only.
In detail: You are mailing us your old Reflex XTR interface and tell us what radio connection your need. We are shipping the new slimstick interface, the cable to suit your radio and the CD containing the latest Reflex XTR Software 5.04 or later.

I think it's the kiss of death for a great simulator.
We appear to be forced to purchase an upgraded interface because their copy protection in the original interface was not strong enough.
I don't expect to purchase the upgade. I'd rather purchase an alternate product with better support available in this country.
Sorry Reflex, but your apparent intention of placing the cost of copy protection upon your installed user base, mixed with your funky website, will cause your market share in the USA to shrink.
I will not be buying a $106 (is shipping extra?) upgrade so that you can upgrade your copy protection.
Sincerely
Barry

Barry, its not due to the copy protection not being strong enough, and making users pay for the "cost of copy protection"
The latest version has been written to take on board the new features available with the iVOL. Reflex's idea is that you can set up a model in XTR then upload it to the iVol, plug in the transmission module and then go fly the real model. Any changes in the trim settings made whilst flying the real model can then be downloaded to sync the sim model with the real one. Previous versions didn't allow this two-way communications, and thus to use the new version of the software with your existing TX you need to up-date your dongle.
I would however agree that for existing users the cost to upgrade, and even look at using the iVol rather than traditional transmitters is prohibitive and Reflex will loose (or has lost) a lot of existing customers. However what is not clear, is how many new customers will purchased the iVol once the transmission module is widely available, and thus can take advantage of the full pacakge.

Malc,
I really could not care less about the iVol, with or without it's TX module.
The long and the short of it is my software and interface are now frozen in time. All further features and bug fixes will not be compatable with my current investment.
Although they have provided an upgrade path, the purchase price of that option is far too high to even consider.
So, given that many people wont want the iVol feature, why not make all future versions also backwardly compatable with the existing interface............ Oh, we are back to the broken copy protection again and we are expected to pay for it.
They want the broken copy protection off the market..... I don't blame them.
They don't want to pay for getting it off the market..... I don't blame them.
They are in business to make a profit.... I don't blame them.
But I don't wish to pay $$$ to meet the above Reflex goals.
I do wish to be able to use my TX as a standard joystick and the new slimstick offers that feature. But I can purchase that function at a fraction of the cost.
I would pay for this function.
So sell me an iVol crippled slimstick for $30 shipped.
Bhahahahahahahahhahahaha
Not going to happen, is it?

Whats that iVol spose to do different from your transmitter anyway? I would prefer to use mine and the iVol looks stupid and very expensive.

Barry,
I'll agree to dissagree with you. Having communicated with Wolfgang a lot over the past years, I can tell you that the development of the iVol was not based on "beefing up" the copy protection used with XTR. I was privilaged enough to receive a pre-production iVol last year and it is a nice (all be it expensive) bit of kit, and it was due to the points I stated above that dictated the change of software. As to wether this is the right business decision only time will tell, and I agree that for people like you and I who already have several hundred $$ or ££ worth of transmitter the change in practice has ment that XTR is not really viable if you want to upgrade it. However, for anyone new entering the hobby it makes an ideal complete package.
As for backwardly compatible, its like expecting Windows Vista to support Win 3.11 files.. time moves on, its called progress ! We either put up with it, or follow the flow ;)
Rodders,
The main difference between the iVol and a standard TX is the way it's used with XTR. If you read my post above, you'll see that it syncs the sim model with the real model, something you can't do with a standard TX / interface / sim
