If these motors are so popular, why doesn't someone mill up a knock-off and make bank off of them? A few minor changes and patents wouldn't be an issue...

What was the going price of this style? $50-$200? I smell opportunity... :D

It looks like here are the requirements:

1. Built in motor mounts
2. Open brush set
3. Easy serviceability
4. Solid construction
5. Built in watercooling
6. Hex end shaft

If I were building this motor I'd add:

A. Angled, cylindrical brushes - easy to maintain and slide. Watercool them.
B. Fully watercooled case, molded/milled right into the system, efficient path. Possible water cooled shaft as well.
C. Fan on the shaft to force air down the winding path.
D. Switch hex end for torx style with central tapping for custom CVD style joints to be added onto the end with popular driveline sizes available for the other side of the CVD.
E. Mill it out of aircraft grade aluminum and fully anodize it with water repellants also.
F. Offer screw on terminals for optional screw on Waterproof ESC.
G. Same screw on battery terminal block also would have options for all the popular power connectors (PowerPole, Deans, etc.). Plug and play.
H. Make various hull shape mount blocks out of styrene or other easy to glue plastic. Offer different angles for V hulls, flats for cat style, and even some universal mounts for odd connections- make them all with vibration dampening blocks molded in for the motor to bolt on to.
I. Offer multiple armature windings and types of windings, just slide in.
J. Design in gearbox options or attachement points.
K. Offer high end models with super precision components. Sell the components separately so a 'basic' motor can be upgraded over time to the best model.
L. Make several sizes of motor cases to match current 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 900 series motors and make a 'goliath' version that is rated at 3+hp for those super large models.

Those of us with small pocketbooks can still get by with the normal motors. Those with the desire for this 'super' model can buy and upgrade as they like....

What do you all think? Add your own ideas! :D Let's design the perfect boat motor instead of adapting car, plane and generic motors!

Well, it still wouldn't be a Kroker.

lol.... :p

Skewed armature
Hand wound armature
epoxy ballanced
Ball bearings

I think 3 flavors to start...1 high 15K RPM for the Hydros (like they'd venture away from brushless), 1 mid range RPM (8000), and one torquey monster turning (4000) and drawing 5 amps or less with a 4" prop :D

Looks like you have both a Sea Pup and a Sea Wasp. ;)

Now that you have them are you going to run the things or start a museum? :D

Nice precision pieces, aren't they? :)

Runners. I hope to put the SeaPup in a Dumas Barrel Back. (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=739766) This is where the SeaWasp lives. Dumas 24' Chris Craft (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=725190). Oh, and you're right, they are nice precision pieces. As far as I know, the only motor made specifically for model boats.

You BUM!!!!

For years I've wanted a Kroker. I remember seeing them spec'd on many boat plans when I was a kid.

Kmot's right, I did hi-jack the thread... sorry about that woodybob.

I understand there is some historic allure to the motors, so congratulations on the acquisitions.

If anyone is interested, perhaps we could start a motor design thread...

No problem Shaun. These motors were built to mil-spec tolerances. I think they look cool and perform wonderfully for my needs. I plan on putting one into a Dumas Barrel Back. Look at the difference. Will this be neat or what?

Nice Pat.

Old school fer sure. Put the pix in my Kroker file. Got more? Thanks...

I know of other Kroker literature out there, wish I could get a hold of it.

Who's got it?

Here are the scans of the Kroker catalog. Ray at one time had considered coming to the PNW with his manufacturing. Jerry J.

Here are a couple of scans of the instructions for adjusting the motors. Also there is a scan of the sheet showing his water cooled speed control. He used a couple of linked switches to get reverse. I have both in my cabinet. Jerry J.

Neat, watercooled ESC, first time seeing one. Mr. Kroker was ahead of the times!

Post some pictures of your Kroker collection, would love to see them.

Didn’t even know these existed until three weeks ago. Found this Kroker ESC on eBay a week or so ago. I assume it works, it appears to be in good condition and it doesn’t have that fried smell to it. It has built in watercooling, & is a forward only device, but what the hay. Talk about relics. Oh yea, a fully water-cooled SeaWasp 6 was included in the deal. Sweet…

I'm really glad you posted these photos Pat. When you showed this to me last week at Hansen I was so excited I forgot to take pictures!

Got the ESC powered up and it works like a dream. Opened the box to see what made it tick and discovered it is dated 9/76 and looks like it was signed off by RK. Cool...
A watercooled, proportional ESC in 1976? Whoa...

Nice precision little beasties, will turn over with one AA battery---. :)

Somewhere back in this thread, someone listed improvements they would make, which included ball bearings---.

Well, the Krokers already have them---. ;)

I sold a pair of Sea Wasps to Kmot, but I still have rwo more in my stash---. :D

NOT for sale---. :p
