Earthquake!!!!

Hey people!!!

Yesterday, at about 6:41 pm, there was a very strong earthquake here in my city (Lima, Perú). It's intensity was 7,9 in the Richter scale. I was just about to leave my office at the time (located in the sixth floor in a building) and everything just started shaking. I stood there next to a column. Through the window you could see people running and screaming as the lights of the lamp posts exploded and the glass windows from some buildings broke and fall into the street. For a moment I thought "this is it, I'm about to die". Finally I walked to the emergency stairs and got out of the building. The earthquake lasted more than 2 minutes.

Reading the news this morning I found out that there have been more than 350 deads, and the cities of Ica and Pisco (which are near Lima) have been almost completely destroyed.

A terrible thing to happen.

I've been listening to the news all night and it sounds like a really bad one for the people.
We need to pick a good charity to support who can assist those poor people in their needs.
Anyone have knowledge of a good one?

They and we need to act fast to be of any use for those suffering.

You need to be very careful with those. There are many dishonorable persons who would try to take advantage of the situation. If you're willing to donate, do it only to organizations you know and trust.

Please, be careful!!! or the help could end up in the wrong hands.

Chrono, good to hear you're OK, and prayers to the ones that aren't. I was in the Loma Prieta quake in California in '89, pretty scarey, bewildering and awsome all at the same time, witnessing the power of the earth beneath us. Hoping for the best, Chris
