View Full Version : Question Comparison...eFlite P-47D Vs. Parkzone FW-190

Hey, I am looking at both of these aircraft...and can't decide. My friend has the PZ spitfire, and it is great...so I thought I would look at a warbird to do some combat with him (streamers)...
MY QUESTION/S
1. How does the p-47 compare to the FW as far as performance goes (stock)...speed? Climb rate? run time?
2. Durability. Which one can take more of a beating? Is the p-47 painted? does it chip/peal easily?
3. Any other +/- for these planes?
I noticed the replacement airframe for the FW is discontinued...and I really dont want to get the RTF, dont want another cheap radio. I have the opropriate esc (30amp), battery (TP 3S 2100 pro lite)...I would just need to buy the ARF and another receiver. I think I even have the right servos; 3 Futaba S3114...are these good for the P-47, it calls for 3 sub micro.
I want (hopefully) to be completely convinced on which to get...give it your best...lets compare!!!
Regards,
Daniel

I have them both, love them both :)
You can not say wich one is the best, they are both great flyers, I would say the P-47 is more stable and easy to fly, but the performance is better in the FW......
What ever you choose, you want get dissapointed......

I too have both.
1. How does the p-47 compare to the FW as far as performance goes (stock)...speed? Climb rate? run time?
They use the same size motor, so performance should be about the same, but the FW is heavier. My FW handles winds much better than the P-47, and I think is still my overall favourite plane. run time about 15 minutes with a 3S 2200maH lipo
2. Durability. Which one can take more of a beating? Is the p-47 painted? does it chip/peal easily?
The FW-190 is tougher because it has a film covering which protects it from a lot of cosmetic 'hangar rash' that the P-47 can get from landings etc. However the plastic frame inside the FW is flimsy and can shatter from the weight of the battery if you make a heavy landing. But this aside i have over a hundred flights on the FW and it has less cosmetic damage to wing tips etc than my p-47 which has 14 flights so far. (maybe I am a bad pilot?)
Both are easy to repair though. my FW and P-47 have both been broken in 2 from crashes and have both been easily repaired.
3. Any other +/- for these planes?
FW-190
'+' really scale looking, add a bit of detail and it looks very nice.
'+' not much work required to get it flying
'-' some planes have a horizontal stabliser that is not square with the wing (parallel to the ground i mean) - mine has a slight warp - flies fine though.
'-' roll rate not too fast - control linkages can slip in the foam wing reducing control - make sure you re-expoxy those cable tubes in the wing near the servo AND near the aileron.
'+' did I say it was good looking? ;)
P-47
'+' once set up right - flies pretty well
'-' cowl is really flimsy - shattered mine pretty fast.
'-' does not handle winds as well as the FW-190
'-' those plastic covers under the wing never stay stuck! i lost the tape and recessed adhesive velcro tape under my wing to hold it.

i own the FW190 and it has been a great plane for me.

Sounds like the FW190 is getting a better vote so far.... I like the durability of the covering and the better handling in the wind.
What kind of fuse is the P-47? Is it the same sort of plastic ribs and stuff as the Wulf?

the 47's fuse is all foam...hollow in certain areas and solid in others for strength...both models look and fly well...the 190 will require a bit more work to go brushless...with the 47's stick mount and kit parts, you can go inrunner or outrunner with ease...with the 190's firewall, you'll have to fabricate a mount for an outrunner...

Ok, thanks.
I would probably go brushless in the future, but making a mount shouldn't be that hard for me. I would want to go brushless for longer run times and more torque. I wouldn't want much more speed though, I would like to keep it closer to scale abilities.
Horizon says they discontinued the replacement airframe for the Wulf, anywhere else that carries them???
Thanks,
Daniel

Another thing...
Are there any CHEAP inrunner brushless motors that would directly replace the PZ motor (using the stock mount/gearbox)? I thought it would be easier to do it that way instead of making a whole new mount for it. I figured I wouldn't have to worry about a brushless breaking the mount if I got one close to the same power as the stock 480...I would basically just get longer run times.

check the other pz threads for info on suitable inrunners...it's still going to require some work to get the 190 brushless even with an inrunner...going brushless with the p47 is much easier...the p47 is much more repairable as well and includes landing gear and bombs...not trying to steer you towards the p47...just trying to give you as much info as possible for your consideration...
if you're looking for an fw190 airframe, post your interest in the for sale forum...a while back, someone was looking to unload quite a few airframes...hope this helps...

Check out the the PZ Typhoon motor and ESC, it's a drop in for the 190's gear box, but you'll have to replace the motor gear, and move the heat sink back....but it'll cost you about $90 total. I haven't it, but a few other have. Check it out here at the thread.....

Someone said that the "performance" is better in the Wulf, besides handling better in the wind...what are the other performance diffs???
Thanks for the BL info, I dont want to upgrade anytime soon, so I guess it is back to the original discussion.
These are the things that I am tied up with, as far as +/-'s go...
- No "covering" on the p-47, paint will chip.
+ P-47 has landing gear, optional rudder, two wing (ail) servos, and is more scale looking (in my opinion).
- The FW190 has a somewhat of a flimsy fuse...my friend gently nose one on landing, and it squished like a pop can.
+ Nice plastic covering...more ding proof.
As far as price goes, it'll cost about the same for either of them to get them set up... what other things can you guys come up with.
Will the Jug take of from the grass (short grass)?

that set up is junk and a total waste of money, it consumes tons of power and offers little performance. better to save yourself the $$ and just fly it stock or build a mount and put an outrunner in the FW190.

Both planes are nice flyers, but if you ever hit the weeds, or go into "hard" over growth with the Jug, you'll be able find the plane by the trail of foam beads it'll leave. Yeah, the 190's fuse leaves something to be desired, but the plastic covering helps a lot to protect the foam. I've retreaved my 190 a few times from over growth at my clubs field, and at most I've pull a few thorns from the wing and fuse. From looking at a Jug at the LHS, this thing'll look like a bean bag got cut open if it ever went in to what the 190 did. But folks have glassed the plane, and reported that it flys fine with the covering.
As far as grass..from the looks of the plane's wheels and landing gear wire I've seen here, your better off to hand launch and belly bounce in.

if you want all out perfromance... the EFLite 480 outrunner makes a heck of an upgrade for the PZ Warbirds... my Spit has it... she will hang with the Stryker C in level flight... :)

well, it looks like im gunna go for the FW190 now....it just nice and durable, and simple; no landing gear, or rudder...less to break. The grass where I fly is quite rough, so the Wulf's covering should help a lot.
Now, to find one...I don't know how much I have, but does anyone out there have a NIB FW190 replacement airframe? Or know any place that carries them?

Yeah, that sounds good to me...or perhaps the park 450 (890kv) that would give me better run times...

Keep an open eye on ebay, or do a search on google and click all the stores that pop up, their out there, just a matter of hunting them down. If worst comes to worst, piece one together on the Horizon Hobby site in the replacement parts section...it'll cost a little more, but you'll have it.

All right, I'll keep my out out until I get the cash.
