Are there any plans, or articles, available on how to build and use a winch. I've heard that older Ford starter motors are commonly used. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Don

He has all the info you need on this site. He sells a good kit at a reasonable price.

Hey Jack,
Thanks for the information, I keep building bigger sailplanes, and want a better launch than my current hi start.

Laser Arts sells plans for a sailplane winch. See:

McCann's winch is very good. I used one for a year that belonged to a friend. Then I got my own 2 years ago and am very happy with it. Winches are more forgiving than histarts - you can stop the pulling at any time things aren't going the way you want . like a strong scary veer, then resume if and when things come under control.

Jack,
Thanks for the web site address, its just what I was looking for. My brother is a machinist, and I have a line on the starter motor, so I'll fabricate one and save a few bucks.

I just ran across another winch site. Probably not what you want but more on what is out there.
