Atair Aerospace is currently interviewing for Aerodynamicist / Designer positions.

We have an immediate opportunity for a low-speed aerodynamicist in our New York office to work on R&D projects with government agencies in an interesting and dynamic environment.

The work to begin will be primarily centered on our DARPA X-Wing contract.

The X-Wing is a turbine powered, parachute integrated, composite Wing Suit for a military HAHO parachutist (basically a miniature jet powered wing worn like a back pack for extended travel during free fall, landing is via parachute).

Please respond with CV to jobs@atairaerospace.com with "Aerodynamicist" as the e-mail subject.
No attachments please; send only as in-line text.

Have you seen the movie "Rocketman" from the cartoon? Have you seen the videos of the guy flying a fourjet (model turbine engined) wing through the Swiss alps? Awesome!

Have you seen the movie "Fight Club" ? I know, it doesn't correlate, but it's a cool movie anyway.

That said, I think this sort of stunt has been done on a james bond movie already, and there's also someone else working on this: http://news.softpedia.com/newsImage/How-To-Fly-Like-James-Bond-The-Jet-Pack-Flying-Wing-2.jpg

I can't quite find again the bond movie stuff, but I remember seeing photos of the wings used in that case. They were a couple of sledges where the pilot would lie prone on top of the rig, with wings folding backwards and pretty much conventional layout. They had a couple of mini jets, and I presume the pilot would have to let go of the entire rig before opening his parachute. I assume the rig would have its own recovery system. All in all it wouldn't be much different than modifying a cruise missile to carry a paratrooper, though these seemed quite smaller.
