View Full Version : Cool Saw a Disappearing Propeller Boat today...

Built 1920-something at Port Carling in the Muskoka area: "Disappearing Propeller Boat Company". Design competed with swing-up outboards for utility in the shallows... the prop and shaft could be cranked up into the chamber, sort of like a centerboard. This also serves as a speed control!
Looks to be cedar; lapstrake with clenched copper nails. Strakes are original, ribs and seats are new.

And just what do clenched copper nails look like? Like this!
Amazing that everyone from the Vikings to the Muskokans could do this and keep a dry boat... I can just imagine if I tried my hand at it... :eek:
