Well, it's been a long time coming.

About 5 years ago I bought and built a Kadet LT-40 kit. Then life got busy and it languished in the basement. Every so often I would look at it, get depressed, and bring it out to the back yard, where I would fire it up and taxi around for a little while, run up the engine, and then pack it away again.

This summer I spent two weeks at my folks cottage. I haven't been up for a few years. In a moment of inspiration I decided that I might as well put some floats on the plane and bring it along. So, out goes I and buys a Great Planes 40-60 float kit (The one that says "General ARF kit", but is really intended only for their Cub). To get it to fit with the proper angle on the floats I had to notch the fuselage about 2" deep and then reinforce.

Anywho, after 3 days of work I brought it down to the dock, the engine caught on the second flip, plopped the plane in the water, taxied around, and hit the gas. Full back stick, up on step, a touch of up-elevator, and off she goes!

I did probably ten flights, moving from basic turns and circuits to rolls, loops, split S/immelman, inverted flight, stall turns...Had great fun chasing my friends boats.

The only R/C flying experience I had prior to this was about 10 minutes of Real Flight at a store around here. I do however have both my private and glider pilots licenses, with over 600 flights in gliders, so I have a bit of experience with aircraft.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Previous RC experience helped me visualize what the full scale plane was doing as I was training and even later on.
Likewise, full scale flying helped in understanding aerodynamics, the different stalls, prototypical landing patterns, etc., when returning to RC.
Model building helped immensely when building a VP 1 Volksplane.
Seems like each was good for the other.
