Hi Guys, I know it's a bit late but I am wondering if anyone is interested in doing a little F3B launch practice and maybe a speed run or two this Sunday at El Dorado park?
1. Is the park field open this Sunday from 11:00am or is there an event? Most of the E-pilots will be gone.
2. Can anyone bring a spare winch? I have 1 maybe 2 coming.
3. Spare Battery?
If you can come let me know. Nothing official just a throw together at the last minute. Maybe we can do it again in a few weeks.

Is this the park (http://www.longbeach.gov/park/facilities/parks/el_dorado_regional_park.asp)?
I've driven by it many times but have never gone in.

Will: Yep where it says "Glider Field" is the spot. Nice map!
Walter: I am waiting for some of the guys to get back from the Nats and see of we can get more interest. Location is still looking like Fresno because its sort of in the middle of the state soaring wise but we haven't asked a club official as of yet. It's a little soon but lets keep working on it. It should be a hoot!

I'd be up for it in a few weeks. Already gonna use my points to fly the DLG contest Saturday and I'm about to ask her to move a long-standing annual event in October so's I can attend the F3B thing.

Tom, better watch out for the altitude police, Mark and Clay have been measuring T.D. launches at Eldo, a good F3b launch will easily blow through 400 feet, the electric guys will be on you like stink on you know what!

Dennis - Will next Sunday be a flying day at SULA?? It is the first Sunday. If so, what time do you guys show up??

Terminator, a good winch launch has been measured at about 700 feet, and like I said all the electric guys start freaking out when they see one of our "monster" gliders get anywhere near 5/600 feet, I have decided not to fly at Eldo anymore, I don't want the height police coming down on me.
Bill, I will check with the club officers within a day or 2 and find out if August 5th and 19th are the scheduled days at SULA. If it could be worked out, F3B launches could be done at SULA, of course the electric guys would be an issue as at all these fields.

Just in from flying with my buddy Bob Breaux at Glider Point. As always i am interested in any thing rc and Glider...so I asked him how high I had his new Ceres up his reply was 500 plus feet...mind you it was twice as high when he was thermaling...I was climbing out to drop in for f3f runs...fwiw. I was not aware there was a ceiling for these planes...so where can ya fly f3b w/o the restrictions?
At Glider Point I daily fly higher than 400 feet...

This might be getting off topic, but the altitude limits have sort of been brought on by the electrics, yes HSS and Eldo are close to airports, but funny how we flew for 25 to 30 years at each site until the electric invasion, all the sudden the 400 foot ceiling is the law, at each site you can actually get a ticket if you exceed 400 more than a few times. But this gets into a whole other can of worms which has been debated elsewhere on RCgroups.

How does an officer determine the plane's altitude?

Dennis, the situation at HSS pre-dates the electric guys. It really started with a Costa Mesa police heli pilot who got a bee in his bonnet about the models. He tried to get the City to cite the model pilots, then he tried to get the FAA involved and he never got anywhere with that. BUT when HSS went to the City for a permit system they remembered the heli pilot, he reminded them and then the FAA came to "help". In the end the City took the easy way out for fear of the FAA and imposed the 400' limit.
And Eldo had a few run-ins with full scale that really went nowhere. Unfortunately the last one happened about the same time as the Chino/Prado/jet incident and involved a guy who works for the FAA at the FSDO at Long Beach airport. The FAA definitely was awake by then. Long Beach also took the easy way out.
Much of this is a combination of poor timing and bad luck.
BUT, the anti-glider people are without question using it to help fan the flames, but they really did not get it started. But they are certainly using it to their advantage.

Pardon my ignorance, but how are they "using it to their advatage"?
