Hi all,

I'm building a SIG Kadet Senior for electric power and am wondering how should I protect the 545g (about 1 pound) 4350 mAh 5S LiPo battery. I'd like to build an enclosure for the battery that will protect it as well as possible. There's plenty of room in the Kadet!

However, since I'm not sure where the CG will settle, I'd like to make a solution that would allow to move the battery easily in order to get the CG just right. Now I've never done anything with such a big battery, so I'm a bit clueless with this... How do you mount your huge LiPo batteries?

Thanks,
-olli

Hi...I always use industrial strength Velcro. If you have lots of room
make a battery tray from lite ply, and put the loop part on the tray.
The hook part will be adhered to the battery, and when you "mate" the
two, they will not move...however if your mounting surface is big enough
you can move the LiPo fore and aft to achieve your balance.
A "trick"....use a piece of cardboard BETWEEN the hook and loop
when you are experimenting, it will make moving the battery much easier.
When you have found the right location, just slide it out!

Put a 1 inch thick foam pad in front of the battery for "sudden deceleration" protection.

Don't block off the cooling airflow... Trying to encase the battery in too much armor will just make it overheat and burn.
