Any one going to AUVSI this year?

I am going to be at the Procerus Booth - I would love to meet any of you all in person.

Hi Reed:

I won't be able to make it to the AUVSI conference this year but the two engineers that put our fuel cell powered uav up in the air will be. Nate and Nick will be around the whole week and will be presenting a poster on Wednesday.

Hope you have a great week,

Tim

We will be flying with Procerus Technologies. We are going to try to hit a moving car and geo locate some stuff.

I'll be hanging out at the Naval Research Lab booth with some of our projects and will be at the demo to see everyones toys in action.

Reed, look forward to your "targeting" demo. The videos were entertaining.

Steve, looks like you've really refined your tailsitter. Looks great.

Kip, have fun in Italy!

See ya next week.

Thanks, we worked really hard on it, still are. We put a lot time into the front end of this project so that the back end would go smoothly and fast. We used more brain and less braun this time. Working smart is really going to pay off.
I have pix of our booth and the X-300 Integrator on my computer at work. I will find out if I can post them tomorrow. If I can I will. Our new booth looks great as well.

The Integrator looked very niced. Much more polished than when I saw it last. Glad to see it is moving forward.
I really enjoyed the "No Nets" buttons at the Insitu booth. Not trying to make a point are you RCA

Well, I know I can post this picture because it is on the cover of this week's Flight International.
This shot is of our #1 R/C only, Pre-prototype X-300 Integrator. It's just hitting the rope with the right wing a half second from full capture on the hook at the wing tip.

Hi Chris,
Glad you liked the new bird. I'm in charge of designing the entire control system! I've heard of the buttons but I haven't seen one yet. Yes, I'm sure we are trying to make a point. Nets suck. SkyHook is the only way to go. I tell people "We don't land, we dismount".

Restricted airspace and customer's COAs. I help customers with the COA process and it's not an easy process at all. But like anything else, once you've done it once, it gets easier for each renewal.

And by customer I mean DoD or DHS... no civilian COAs right now

Fine - pretty busy, lots of people to talk to and booths to visit...

We also found some good leads for people to hire. It is amazing how dificult it is to find engineers with RC/ UAV experience. I guess all (allmost) the good ones have good jobs. Utah is a pretty nice place to live isn't it??

How did the student competion go?

Yes I like Utah, but I'll be going to Wright Patt after I graduate.

We did ok at AUVSI, 3rd. Our speed control over heated after 10 minutes of flight time. After that the judges said we were done.

I do have a chance to redeem myself at the MAV07 contest. BYU is sending me and another student to France. We're going to fly a fixed wing air craft, Coaxial helicopter, and hopefully take first place again this year.

Did your demos go well?

:) That's funny. I've never thought of it as "a piece of net" but guess it is. At AUVSI we gave away buttons that had the word NETS with a red circle with a slash though it signifying "NO NETS". They're pretty cute, I have one.

Yes I like Utah, but I'll be going to Wright Patt after I graduate.Nothing like going from a place with 330 days of sunshine a year and 35 cloudy days to a place that has 35 sunny days and 330 cloudy days. I liked working at Wright Patt though. After I was there, I moved to Utah for 6 years.

Too bad my family is all back east, I wouldn't mind living in Utah again, can't stand the skiing back here.

Ya I heard all about them... pretty cool marketing idea... :D

One of my guys and a Boeing SE rep had a nice (YIKES) conversation at the show about Tier II... wish I could've been there... lol

ohhh....The old "My speed control overheated" story.... :) Good luck in France - Remember your magicc lab heritage and watch out for those Paparazzi guys. It's like microsoft vs linux here.

I'd like to here more about the Coaxial job sometime.
