I have a 3m Algebra made from a EMP kit some 15 years back.

I am converting to an electric soarer. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the tail planes.

Has any one got the basic details, to help build another. Looking at the fuselage, it would appear to be of rectangular form.

Details wanted

a) Span
b) Chord
c) thickness
d) chord of moving surface.

I have calculated the area is possibly in the 77 inch square region.

Try an area of perhaps 10-15 per cent of the wings. I had a 4M which had a AMT-All Moving Tailplane-operated via a pushrod under the hatch and made from 1/4 balsa sheet with a simple aerofoil mounted upside down - to minimise the usual downforce at the rear. As a big, in those far off days, RES model it was very succesful in open competitions.

The figure I have come up with of 77 per side (or 154 total)is the top side of your 15% recommendation (8" mid span*120"*.15 = 144).

I used one of those formulas (tail moment arm, static margin stuff) from Stringwell or Hughes forget which, set in a spreadsheet.

Can you remember if the plan form was essentially rectangular

I used it in the Barcs League, model went well, I did not go quite as well.

God only knows where I put the tail planes, I certainly do not.
