Hi Guys,
I have a large scale turbine (wr27 out of an s3 viking) and was interested in the starting procedure for the small model turbines. I've seen a few videos and photos where it seems people are impressed when they get glowing red turbine blades at start up i.e. hot starts. With large GT's hot starts are something to be avoided like the plague unless you want a disintergrating spool but some people seem oblivious to it?
What sort of RPM can the air blowers some people use actually turn a turbine up to becuase some times it sounds like they get ignition at only a few thousand RPM.
I'm just a bit concerned but havent seen any items on the net about any actual turbine loses so I suppose people are getting away with it, it may just be affecting turbine life length, any input would be appreciated

Most model jet turbines are started through an ECU (Engine Control Unit) which monitors all the essential parameters and provides an automatic start via electric motor.

However, that doesn't mean things can never go wrong:
