View Full Version : Discussion Anyone had E-Coli?

I just moved this from "Separate "Politics" from "Life, The Universe, and Politics" (http://showthread.php?t=713104)" thread. I was posting a reply to Jim T's. reply to me, but figured it'd make a better thread on its own.

Here is that reply:

I think there should be a never ending supply of topics to discuss that do not necessarily need assistance from "P" or "R" (not talking about you know what, but referencing just a bit by letters ;)). For instance...

I got back from a short visit to see my sister in Minnesota who is recovering from a stroke. The whole time I was there my stomach was just bad. Kinda thought (at the time) it was because of what I was there for and aside from making dashes to the B/R for relief, I just let it be. Well, 2nd night home, my stomach felt like it was blowing up like a balloon with all the pain you would associate with that. After a couple of hours I had another episode in the B/R but things came out the other way.

Pretty gross, but I'm better (not well) today some 3 days later. Wife and kids want me to see our doctor, but since I'm about over it, I decided not to. I am not the type to have someone poke and prod on me if I can help it (some my think me a bit dumb this way). I did do some checking online for similar types of symptoms and what fits best is e-coli poisoning.

Looking back to the trip, I do remember the breakfast meal I ate on the way up to Minnesota that really didn't set right with me shortly after eating it. That afternoon when we got to my sisters, was when the first B/R episode started. So, I'd guess it was that meal that had the e-coli bacteria in it.

It seems it will take a couple of weeks to get over this fully. I'm wondering if anyone else has had ecoli and if there is something you maybe could add that I should know. If this doesn't fully go away over the weekend, come Monday I'll be checking with my doctor -- Required to keep my wife and daughters from dis-owning me.

Thanks.

Well, are they going to post it here or do I have to start watching TV or listening to radio?

well i had spinal meningitus, which sucked :(

Thank (you know who) it was spinal, not to lessen what you had to go through, but at least you're still here. We were one time told my daughter was most likely in the early stages of Viral Meningitis with her eye problem, but thank (you know who again) MRI's over the past few years and a correct diagnosis have proven this not to be the case.

Note- Sorry for close references to the unspeakable here, but it had to fit-in somehow in this case.

Slipped a cog, sorry. I was mixing bacterial and viral which is a huge difference. I am glad you got over it in any case.

There are all kinds of bugs you can catch which are food borne and non food borne. If you think youre getting better, then you probably are, but dont risk it for too long if you arent really better. Listeria is food borne and nasty. Then there is that Narwhal thing you catch on a cruise. The fact that you ate and then soon got sick might only be coincidence.

Thanks for the tip. Today has been fine, yesterday was about good, day before I left work every early and when home to bed. I'd expect tomorrow I'll be normal or close to. I usually don't catch things very easy, so this one hit me hard and fast and way longer then normal "bad" food would.

Can't really know what it was for sure, just heard about e-coli going around and when I started to read up on it, sounded about right.

I'll keep my eyes (and other stuff) peeled for any negative changes for sure.

Thanks folks.

A doctor could determine whether it is something that needs to "run" its course or if cipro class antibiotics are needed to knock it out. You can eat and then soon get violently ill and it is your body's way of saying dont put anything in me, as I am too busy fighting to make use of it. Most of your immune system is in your intestines. I suspect you saw blood and if you did, dont fool around, especially if it persists.

Nope, no blood. Kept close watch on stuff and aside from the one dynamic event of high pressure upchucking, pretty normal flu type stuff before and afterwards. Now, it seems it may only been a bad flu type thing. Guess it was the really bad stomach pressure/burning that I don't remember ever having before that left me feeling this was more then a flu bug.

I'll stay on top of it, and if it isn't gone by tomorrow, I already told my girls I see the doc.

I once had dyslexia

Blood and unbearable pain suggests E-Coli. The Hot shots could be alot of bugs. Now, stay hydrated by eating those pedialite pops or sipping gatorade, H2O. Get plenty of rest and when you think youre ready, try some toast and some yogurt.

I check out of the Roach Motel Express in the morning.

I was sick a few years ago for three days straight. I had the runs like you wouldn't believe, stomach cramps and gas too. When I went it sounded like somebody dumping a milk carton full of liquid into the toilet.....it just POURED out. It was like that every hour, got real raw and hurt like heck from wiping so much too. It got so bad it felt like somebody drained all the blood out of my head, and I actually fainted and fell on the floor. It got better after I barfed. I made the mistake of going to the hospital where they gave me an IV, and told me it was just the flu.....yeah, right.

Well today I think I'm over it OK. Been sleeping fine last couple of nights, no irregularities and no stomach pressure/pain. Only feel somewhat tired which I would expect. So, unless someone has some thing to add, thanks all and I really hope to not have any more posts like this one to start.

Take care.

Does'nt sound like e-coli...clearing up too quick for that.....or for salmonella.

Had both. Not fun.

EC, I lost 27 pounds in 2 weeks; It took a while for it to respond to the meds. Salmonella I lost 52 pounds in a month (and did not have it to spare, either!), and basically had no digestive system; anything I ate took the express route out in about 30 minutes. Ended up on IV feeding both times.......

And now that I've got a few extra pounds to lose, I'm wondering if I should try to catch one of them....
