Here's some pictures of our Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Penny, a Blenheim, roughly 9 years old and a rescue dog, also a shot of Penny and Sam. Sam was a Tricolor, we sadly lost him to a heart attack last year at 10 years old.
Like most dog, a bundle of fun, a smile on your face and a pain in your heart, (and wallet), at times.

Thanks, she's a happy girl, hubba, hubba, hubba hubba, hubba.
She lives in the house and is a bed hog.
I used to feed her that nasty "Pedigree" until I did a little research on dog food. Discovered it's about the worst stuff you can feed your dogs.
She now dines on "Innova". This has cramped my hobby budget for the past two years, but she's worth it. :) Like you, I love her more than my airplanes.

No dogs. Just our 20 lb. cat. His name is Oscar. I have NO idea what kind of cat. We picked him up at the Humane Society a couple of years ago because the kids wanted a cat & I told them "only if he's big". I just can't stand those tiny cats that run around all over the place & have to get attention ALL of the time. Climbing curtains & such. Oscar is a great cat. He is a little needy but, he is the best natured cat in the world. The poor guy puts up with a lot of crap from the kids. He can hold his own though. We almost lost him near the end of last year from a series of bad urinary tract infections but, it seems our wonderful vet got it taken care of finally.
I caught him standing in the kitchen one night with his back paws on the floor & his front paws up on the counter, just to give you an idea of how big he is. He was wanting a bug that was swarming around the night light.

Here's a pic of me and my best buddy, Travis. He loved to go on long walks, only his idea of walking was that he would walk for about 5 minutes, then he would demand that I set the bag down, so he could climb in and I would do the walking. I lost him last Dec 31, after 15 years.

Steve Guinn, I have been making my own dog food for about two years now and my dogs (both Cocker Spaniels...one is 17 years old) have been perfectly healthy. I am sure that this has added years to the older one's life. It's a very simple recipe.. Boil and then debone a whole chicken. Shred the chicken meat in a food processor. Cook 2 cups plain white rice in the left over pot of chicken broth. Add 1 cup oatmeal. Dump the shredded chicken back in and stir and you're done! I freeze one meal portions in Tupperware containers and then thaw out in the microwave before feeding time. I usually make one batch for the week. It's cheap, healthy and my dogs love it! Hope this helps!

OK..Here's my two wonder dogs:
Gypsy is a champion King Shepherd, and a complete snow-queen. Lives for snow, and naps in blizzards. Outside. I kid you not. Kings are a rare breed, and a fairly new one, too. Love these dogs.
Saxon is my big meathead buddy. He's a certified, card-carrying, All-American Random Bred. He seems to be some Mastiff, and some Labrador...so I call him a 'Mastador'. If I do it with a straight face, you can't believe how many people tell me " I think my cousin has one of those..yea..." :D
Flying with either one around is...er...problematic. They both take mortal offense to small, buzzy things...and go for the gusto. Both are capable of breaking bones, so little (or even big) toy airplanes pose no challenge...hence they are not allowed at the flying field. Ummm...anymore, that is. You can guess the rest. :o
Love me, love my dogs!!
Regards all...T

Goomba,
my last buddy was a Dobrador named Jeff. He weighed about 115 pounds fit.
He looked exactly like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I got into arguments with knowledgeable dog people about his pedigree (I knew his parents).
He was a well behaved dog, BUT, he had this thing for "McGruff" the crime dog. He would sit patiently at parades, waiting for his nemesis to appear in the back of a pickup truck.
He would then go crazy, pulling and barking, trying to get to McGruff.
The entire block of people would erupt into laughter. :D
I sure miss him. :(

You never feed me.
Perhaps I'll sleep on your face.
That will sure show you.
You must scratch me there!
Yes, above my tail!
Behold, elevator butt.
The rule for today:
Touch my tail, I shred your hand.
New rule tomorrow.
In deep sleep hear sound
cat vomit hairball somewhere
will find in morning.
Grace personified.
I leap into the window.
I meant to do that.
Blur of motion, then --
silence, me, a paper bag.
What is so funny?
The mighty hunter
Returns with gifts of plump birds --
your foot just squashed one.
You're always typing.
Well, let's see you ignore my
sitting on your hands.
My small cardboard box.
You cannot see me if I
can just hide my head.
Terrible battle.
I fought for hours. Come and see!
What's a 'term paper?'
Small brave carnivores
Kill pine cones and mosquitoes,
Fear vacuum cleaner
I want to be close
to you. Can I fit my head
inside your armpit?
Wanna go outside.
Oh, poop! Help! I got outside!
Let me back inside!
Oh no! Big One
has been trapped by newspaper!
Cat to the rescue!
Humans are so strange.
Mine lies still in bed, then screams;
My claws are not that sharp.

Hey, Steve...
First...I'm truly sorry your bud has moved on. They are so hard to say goodbye to...Luckily, the next one is always willing to listen to stories of the last, until you feel better.
I know what you mean about the penchant for 'fun' the big 'uns can have! Startles everyone for a block around when they both decide to alert me to something they think is a threat...the noise is tremendous, and scary!
Sax snarls like a real killer even when playing games. I'll take them both to the flea market, and always end up in a chat with the cops who come by to see what the trouble is. By now, the officers just meander along to say hi, as they recognize the sound, and have decided the dogs are OK.
I took them to the field only once...alone, thankfully, but couldn't save my little cheap foamie from Gypsy's need to retrieve for me. Land...Yell...Crunch.
Then, Sax needed to reassert his dominance and show off, so he jogged over and snagged the thing from her jaws...imperfectly, I might add...and brought me the pieces he'd managed to separate from hers.
They were both quite proud...

What do you use to keep up the calcium levels in your tank? (for the corrals)
Do you use a protein skimmer?
norite
Aug 06, 2007, 07:56 AM
That leather (soft) coral is the only coral we have right now, so I've been doing 15% water changes every three weeks. They are very hardy, however I'm looking into various suppliments and additives like calcium, or kalkwasser, so until then, I'll hold off on getting any more corals. I don't plan to keep any hard (LPS & SPS) corals right now though either....if i did, then I'd probably have to start thinking about getting a calcium reactor! $$$$!
I do have a protein skimmer, just a Red Sea Prism model. I'm currently building a sump/Refugium and I'll fit it in there. I have a plan to increase the efficiency of the skimmer by syphoning off the water at the surface, where all the proteins accumulate, and feed this straight into the skimmer. If I do get serious about getting more corals, then I'll upgrade to a Tunze skimmer. My nitrate levels are near the 30-40ppm mark, so I want to get a lot of macro algae growing to bring those levels down to zero - another reason why I'm holding off on getting more corals.. :)

I walked out my cage this morning on the way to my shop, and almost stepped on a black snake. Lil fella, but almost gave me a heart attack. I'm a retired mosiac artist and made a round table once that had a desert lizard on top. It was made to look like a bed of squarish tiles were under a partial cover of blown desert sand, with the green and reddish/copper lizard on top, going around the edge.

He's so cute.
We used to have some property about 2 hours west of where we are. OUr neighbour bred cocker spaniels and they are astoundingly adept hunters. I've seen a pack of six of them pull down a fully grown wallaby or medium sized roo.
Owned goannas too. If you ever seen one you don't mess with them, unless you have a 410 on your sling.

My wife is not pleased that I got a "working" dog. He is a very quick learner and once we have finished 8 weeks of basic training I want to move on to field work.
There are no Goannas here but we have a fair plague of rabbits on the local burrows and one meat I really enjoy is Bunny.

:D I think you've got me wrong Bil. He was 16 years old. In dog years that would be more than a hundred dog years!!!! (assuming 1 human year = 7 dog years as I've heard).
He was supossed to be an english cocker spaniel. But after a few months we realized he wasn't. The strange thing is, all his brothers grew as cocker spaniels (they were adopted by friends of the family), but ours looked more like a dachshund, he didn't grew tha hairy ears and legs. In fact his legs never grew too much. That didn't matter though, we wouldn't have changed him for nothing in the world.

I gotcha! And I'm glad he lived a long life. I've read that a dog (or cat) can have offspring from two or more different mates in the same litter. If a purebred female dachshund breeds with a purebred male dachshund, then gets nailed by a cur while she's still in heat, she can have purebred dachshund pups and ALSO dachshund/cur mixed breed pups IN THE SAME LITTER! Amazing, but true....
