View Full Version : Question Questions About Sound Mods

I've read a mess of threads here about sound modules, but nothing about the result using 6 volts for power. Anyone try using 6 volts? Which module if any will work and sound decent at 6 volts? I would like to mount a small speaker right up under the stack, using the stack as the sound tube. Anyone try that? I know the stack has been used as a way to get the sound out, but the speaker was attached to a pringles tube and set down in the hull further. I want to place it up in the cabin overhead right under the stack and eliminate the pringles tube.

What is the weight of the module and smaller speakers?

One more question on the Ram setup...can you completely turn off the horn or are you stuck with that thing going off when it wants to?

Thanks

One of the guys who runs in my group has an Atlantic and he uses a RAM horn system. He mounted the speaker right up against the deck at the base of the smoke stack and it sounds VERY loud when he honks it out on the pond.

He cut the top of the stack opening and placed some screen material in there. I may have a picture. I will look for one.

...does the Ram module let you JUST run the engine sound...without the horn...or does the horn go off on it's own every so often? What about the other questions...weight...voltage?

He only has a horn module, no engine sound. I don't have the answers to your other questions.

The RAM website lists the weight and dimension on alot of the systems. They have samples of the sounds also. Im thinking that the horn is a part of the recording, so you dont have control over it.I believe its tied into your esc.,so it changes as you change the throttle.I believe you can adjust the idle and max volumn also.Which particular RAM system are you looking at?

Heres the link www.ramrcandramtrack.com The voltage required depends on which system your using.I would think using voltage at the low end of the range the system is suppose to use would result in a reduction in sound volumn. My opinion, if you have room to velcro a 9volt battery somewhere..do it.

I was thinking the Ram 40 diesel engine sound with 2”speaker if it sounds decent. It says it can run on 6 volts. But how loud is it on that voltage? I don’t want the horn and it says it’s adjustable but it doesn’t say if it can be eliminated all together. I don’t see weight listed on any of the products out there. I know Robbe and some others make mods too. I don't mind paying a little more for the right product. I just don’t want to buy more stuff I can’t use. :(

On the items that do have a weight listed, its not much 1-3oz. If I could download PDF files, I could see what the RAM 40 system looks like. Somebody that carries the RAM systems probably has a picture of one online somewhere.I've been looking at this same system for my Chris Craft runabout and Im not impressed with the horn either. The RAM site does say they will customize a system for you.Maybe give them a call or email and ask them about a RAM 40 without a horn?

Yes, but compare the sound between RAM and JJC... Gas/Desiel and Turbocat Desiel

JJC

Haven't seen anyone with one of these yet...

OK I called RAM, and he said, the system wont sound very good with 6v. He also said that the horn can be activated when ever you want, so if you d0nt want it, you dont have it.The RAM 40 weighs around 2.5-3oz.

...I just dropped another wad of dough at Harbor Models to include the JJC turbo diesel module and the FRS7S speaker. Shhhhhhhhhhh....don't tell Captain Sunshine! :p

The sound is night and day between the 2...at least on this computer.

It says the amp will work on 6 volts...will see.

The JJC system does sound good. The website says that it runs off the reciever battery, what if you are using a esc with a BEC ? Do you use a Y harness to hook it up to your throttle channel(for proportional sound)?I have a two channel system, so no extra channels for stuff like sound.

Yes. Have a look at the JJC website, I believe it has a hookup diagram.
