Guy's, any recomendatons on how best to strip the tiny leads, on cameras, GPS modules, and transmitters? I usually use an exacto blade, but it seems I usaual cut a few strands too! These tiny leads away's are such a pain!

I cut 1/2 way through the insulation sharp wire cutters then pull real hard. Most of the time it pulls the insulation free without cutting any strands. Also I cut close to the end of the wire. Tinning those small wires causes the insulation to recede.

The other thing I do is to replace those tiny wires and connectors with some that are big enough to see.

get wire strippers. There are adjustable ones that will keep you from nicking the wires. There are any number of types that work well. I also like the ones that have different cutters for each wire gage.

For the wires in CAT5 cable I pinch the wire between my thumb and middle finger nails and pull. The insulation rips and slides off. For super thin gauge wire I've used my soldering iron to soften the insulation to pull off. No sharp tools to nick the wire.

Probably wouldn't be too hard to make a thermal stripper, maybe with a wooden clothes pin, a little piece of nichrome wire, and a variable power supply.
