This is Asa Branca (White Pigeon), a small 60” from Leonardo my son.

Leonardo has 11 years old and to young to be part of Rcgroups, so I decide post this thread in his name.

Leonardo theory is made a parallel wing to maintain the same Reynolds number in all wing, and to avoid coverage sag between ribs maintain a space of no more than 1 ½”, a thin 1/32 quarter grain balsa was used for sheeting the upper surface of wing.

A still spring was used for the rudder and elevator, and a this spectra line, used only to pull the surfaces.

Asa Branca is a very light, weight only 8oz, and it’s a Leonardo design and building model, for sure I give some tips , but everything was made by him.

This model is a very docile, and whit a special characteristic, it’s a very good thermalist, climb’s fast on a small hi start, and can found thermals in small bubbles, at low altitude..

Hope you like it!

Some technical data

Wing span 60”
Length 36”
Wing chord constant 7”
Airfoil AG 45
Weigh 8oz
Radio equipment JR 4
Servos - Hitec 55
Aspect ratio 8
Made in balsa and spruce, no carbon fiber anywhere.
Coverage- Polyspan
Design- Leonardo Caio Martins (11)
Builder- Leonardo

Cebola;
Any way to identify costs in US Dollars? It really looks like a winner! I'm glad to see someone bringing the youth along and getting them involved in such a fine hobby. Great job!

Hi Kurt

Leonardo is a scrap builder in essence, this models cost in fact few balsa sheets, and MY POLYSPAN  . Also a Zap 1oz tube, and many scrap of balsa sheet (all measures).

No more than US$ 25,00

But, I feel glad in see Leonardo works, and design.

And, worst, this model is fantastic , flays like a angel.

But, this is what a call happiness, my only son creating and building his own models.

I seem to recall another Leonardo from history. A brilliant man for his time! Perhaps we have another Leonardo in the making! Excellent work!

Tank's a lot for everybody, Leonardo is proud of Asa Branca, but, is a simple glider from a simple kid.
A non expensive model, that behaves like a big one.

Hi Captain

Thanks for the nice words.

In fact, I did not understand yet, the correct position of a canard model.

Seems to depend of the stabilizer volume, not from the wing center of depression.

There are many things I have to ask you, but in your thread about canards (excellent thread).

Hi Felipe

Leonardo use Japanese tissue and dope, the very old method.

The target was avoid weight, and Asa Branca is a extremely light model.

The model was totally made by Leonardo whitout any help from me.

I gave only few tips about the model constructive design .
