I don't know if this news has reached any of you world wide but in some recent storms, we had a ship break its moorings and run aground at a popular beach in Newcastle just north of Sydney.
They are currently trying to refloat the vessel, if any of you are interested, there might be some good tug action photos or video on you tube in the coming week or so. They had their first attempt at pulling it off the sandbar yesterday and moved it around 8 degrees.

It was one of 54 ship anchored off Newcastle when a storm warning was given and they were advised to move out to sea. 51 left and the other 3 got into trouble ,the Pasha Bulker ended up on Nobbys Beach another one was lucky that the wind dropped off as it was struggling to avoid been washed on Stockton Beach as it had both anchors out and twisted and the prop was churning up sand about 1 km off the beach.
There is a webcam on the ship here. http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/NobbysBeach.htm

Apparently they've had another crack at moving it but broke more cables and ran out of time.

Years a go, the New Carrisa wound up beached on the Southern Oregon Coast.

The tried several times to tow it out to sea, but the hull began cracking.
So they tried to burn it(twice).
Then tried to tow it, then it broke up, and floated back in halves
So they tried to tow half of it, then they tried to sink half of it with gunfire.
The Navy ship crew had fun. But it didn't sink,
So they tried to torpedo it,
The Submarine crew had fun, and I believe it slowly sank.

What remains of the stern of the New Carrissa, and its engines, is still on the beach. :o

I suppose you have to remember that this is the same state that tried to get rid of a decaying whale carcass by blowing it up[/URL] with dynamite... oops...

Sounds like something from Deep Forest, they had a couple of hits back in the 90's.
