Im going to build a Perfect soon, do any of you bottom drive the Perfect flaps,
Id prefer that over top driving them. Did it on my Superior and was happy w/results.

My superior is also bottom driven and I need to find some servo covers that fit the long arms. One thing to watch for is getting the linkage geometry correct so the flap movement can match the ailerons when cambering the wing and you can get a full 85 degrees of down flaps.

i did on mine, using JR3421 servos.
gave a tighter TE then going top drive.

top driving where tight also, Samba mounted there horns on a correct angle, not the case on alot of planes.

Where did you get those covers Dave? Nice looking job on flaps.

i get them from Sean Porter at; SAPORTER@mactec.com
he has a few different styles of bumps & fairings.

I went top drive on all of my surfaces. Very clean and tight. Like Dave H mentioned, Samba did a good job with the horn geometry. I used 3421s on my flaps and elevator; strong, fast, and accurate. When you spend that much on a plane, why skimp on the gear.

Thanks Dave, Ill look into those covers. Will bottom drive my flaps as well.

Dave,

Was the difference really noticably tighter with the bottom drive? I've never thought that top drive angles made much sense, but sure like the clean look.
I went bottom drive on my Sharon because too much routering of the sub spar edge was required to get a resistance-free install. The flaps were very precise.

I may have to give Sean a call.

On the Perfect there is no reason to drive out the bottom.
Use a JR3421 with the Dubro 4-40 solder clevis on both ends with Greening servo mounts. Make both of the push rods the same length. You will have to establish the correct length of the push rods using the 2-56 clevis' on both ends with all thread first.
Samba did this correctly. You have lots of room to go internal. Outside on this sailplane is just a mess. All you need is 80 deg's deflection.

yes, i noticed a difference, small, but i'll take it.

i wanted to see the difference from all the ones i top drove.
i like to know these things for future references.

Keith, we're just giving out some options here.
not saying one way is right or wrong.
