Yeah F/F is good, magical
But you gotta have a big flying field to allow for drifting down wind.
That means you have to travel to the big field - so that tends to rule out the olde and young.
So why not start local F/F but using some super light R/C to keep the plane upwind so it drifts back to you? Then you can use a much smaller field. You can spend most of the flight watching instead of steering.
We have cells and equipment that could fit inside 30" rubber power machines without adding much weight.
Same with some nice gliders. I used a electic KK Caprice to learn to fly basic R/C on a local rough ground car park, two channels. It weighed less than the original F/F because I replaced the nose weight with the cells
Make a new fuselage and keep the original too

Senator rubber R/C for three minute fligths on a nice evenign after work at a local venue you can just walk to?
