Where is the best place to put a barometric altimeter on an aircraft? I am using a push/pull twin boom and am able to locate the pressure sensor almost anywhere.

Also, are there any tricks to mechanically dampen the air around the sensor to reduce erroneous readings, something like cotton wool around the sensor. I am already taking an average of the readings, but there is a limit of samples i can average in a period of time. by mechanically damping i hope to get a greater number of valid averages per second.

thanks a lot.

I find as long as the sensor is located so it's not in direct airflow nothing is needed. Several manufacturers recommend if you have problems with pressure changes inside the fuselage, to put a length of clean fuel line on the sensor nipple. The length would depend on how much additional damping is needed. It can be routed where you want and provides dampening.
