I found a good deal on a rinde runt kit for about $25 Is this a decent sailplane? It'll be my first non powered plane. I have had an electra though. I loved it until I crashed it into a tree. Anyway, I think I'm ready for a slope soarer. can I launch this sucker from a high start? Does it thermal well?

The Ridge Runt is a nice little plan. It does what is was designed for. I have seen them thermal off of slope lift many moons ago.
Its design was to be a low cost small trainer primarily for slope flying. Its build is simple and tough for what it is.
For high starting, use a light weight system. The stock setup was for A & E, so you may want to add a rudder for this purpose. Also a slight reinforcment to the fuse for your tow hook.
Go for it and have fun.
