I did a search, but found no switching 5 volt bec circuits. I am sure there must have been one in the past, but if not, is there any help here for one? Thanks for looking

Go to National Semiconductor's web site...lots of info there on buck regulators

Yes, I found many online. I thought there would be more on the DIY thread.

The commercial BECs I've looked at impressed me as being very close to something I designed with the help of the National Instruments website. A bec is just a 5v DC-DC converter.

..with all the interference issues unresolved.
Which is why I wouldn't mess with making my own. The commercially available ones are cheap, and I am fairly sure that at least the Dimension boys have spent time de-trashing theirs.

Thanks for all the replies, I have desided to go with a commerical unit. I did find lots of designs online for 1 to 6 amps switching devices that would work, if I wanted to spend the time finding parts, and making one.

Himeros,
Sorry didn't see your post earlier but try
http://www.dimensionengineering.com/DE-SW050.htm
Its good, works well and no problems with interference. I've changed almost all my linear voltage regultaors for that ... and "comatose" is here ( somewhere ) if you need extra help or have "special" requests :)
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I am going this time with a commerical unit for 3 amps bec. I did find that web site you pointed me to after I posted, but only saw the 1 amp model.

That's a linear regulator, not a switching one.
