Who else practices their F3F skills while carving turns on the road?
My 4x4's never cornered so good!
TIP: I learned a lot today when a flap cover tape job gone south rattled loose in the air and became a sonic speed gage fluttering during the flight. At first I was thinking about coming in for a repair job but then I realized I could hear speed changes and "see" whether I was zooming or not from a ways off. The pitch changes where very useful in measuring how well the model was retaining energy in the turns as I could hear the exits by tone . . .
I might trade off some drag for feedback on practice runs next flight by taping on some tape to flutter, too.
Now, my Yota and I need to find some 40 second road ...

It's too bad we didn't get to see it on video. Yep you've got to keep the cameras rolling cause you never know when something as important as tape buzzing could be useful in a speed task.

Hey Rich,
I'm a bit out there -- and that's a good thing, if you're me. You can be you. It's cool.
Peace

Thanks Rich. Next time, I'll get it on video :)
Re the speed tone -- fluttering tape isn't the answer but the feedback was sure nice.
I wonder if someone makes a device for RC which measures speed and reports it back to the pilot in real time? I've heard of variometers that report altitude, etc. The DS guys get a lot of feedback from Radar in their circuits and it helps them improve their line?

Some Varios have an air pressure guage - check this out:

Not sure how this helps on straightline speed measuring, just food for thought.

I ride motorcycles and bicycles(road, CX, mountain), as well as flying RC, and have found they all have some overlap as far as input and feedback are concerned. Being smooth and conserving energy are key items to going fast. Chris

It seems to me there were some people who used a CRT in conjunction with a TX to fly a glider. So maybe the on board device was able to transmit airspeed back to the monitor.
I think the best way to get feedback comes from what you see. Learning how to read air is a very important tool when applied to F3x's.
