All;

Curious, does the near-universal Kanthal resistor array composed of multiple parallel pins offer any distinct advantage over the more simple resistor "straps" which are installed between the battery post and the cable leading to the winch? (similar to that sold by Ober; http://www.oberflugmodellbau.de/10341/11217.html)

For the Kanthal arrays, what materials are used to build that resistor?

Any other ideas/solutions out there?

Thank you in advance,
Dave Stack

Manganin is the popular material, the resistance doesn't change much as the material gets warmer.

Stainless steel has resistive properties but changes as it warms. Increased resistance doesn't help once the tension is built.

I think that the pictures you see from oberflugmodellbau are resistors intended to fine tune different batteries so that all the batteries are the same.

The multiple pin type setup is useful in that you can have a set screw for each one and then adjust the overall length to tune the resistor. Kind of hard to do with a strap.

Manganin or Constantan are good materials. Pricey
