I am interested in building a 1/12th scale pusher tug, I have seen a basic plan for one but can not find any details on the hull dimensions, I contacted the company who make the tug but no reply. Does any one know where I might find out this information. I am looking at what is called the truckable tug so overall length is about 26' with a beam of 14' and a draught of 5'.

Thanks

Just a thought--Have you seen the Spinger Tug thread? Very easy scratch build.

Sounds like Harbor Model's kit:

Plans? Dunno, but you might also ask at:

Hi Bill

I have built a couple of springers, great fun but I would like to build a scale version. Pat thanks for the links will investigate those.

Towboat Joe's has several plans.
http://www.towboatjoe.com/plans.htm

But at 1/12 scale, expect to be building a model towboat that is 4'-7" to 9'-2" long, or longer.
:p

Umi
Why would the model be that large when the original I am looking at is only 26', I thought 1/12th meant one inch to the foot or have I lost soemthing in the conversion

Well,... because the plans on Towboat joe's are all 55 footers or larger.
so,.... if you get plans from Towboat Joe's, plan on building a boat that
is 4'-7" to 9'-2" or larger. :o

Sorry Umi I see what you mean, I thought I had missed something in my understanding of scale. I have looked at those plans but as you say they are of a bigger size tug.
It is getting towards the end of my working day in the UK so my brain is going to sleep.

I thought that Old River Bill had some plans of a truckable tow but I guess not. There are some pictures of the 1:1 tows but no plans. You may want to contact him. http://oldriverbillzumwalt.members.ktis.net/

Talked to the Springer Bros. and they gave me a picture of the Full Size one. But with a bit of massaging the blown up version would come in at those dimensions. But would make it a twin screw for better work-type handling. Harbor Models has the Barbera Kay which comes in two versions(Long Knees and Short Knees) which several people have built. The local one uses 2 Pitman 14000 motors and 3" Kort Nozzles steerable, will submarine in a heartbeat with no barge. Owner runs a 6' barge at 275 lbs. and does what he wishes with the barge. Zumwalt and Towboat Joe will tell you that truckables tend to be semi-custom builds as there is a dearth of kits.

Thanks for your help guys, I will contact Towboat Joe and Old River Bill to see if they can help. CaptLee do you have a contact e-mail for the Springer Bros??

Thanks

River Bill quit selling plans a few years ago after his health went down hill. He sent them all to me so I've got the plans to the truckable. My new email is towboat@windstream.net

Lately I've been working on drawings of a boat I passed when on a trip aboard the mv. G L FURR. It's name was Dabrimar and I thought it was so unusual I just had to make a model of it some day. It measured out to be
16' x 30'. Check it out!

I'm not saying that it can't push worth a darn but it looks like a tree stand on top of a bath tub.
