I dont think so....

"you are gonna need a bigger boat".. to qote a famous saying.. ;)

Try hooking a fish over say 12" (like a Carp) and it will be 'Bye bye' boat!..

I 'do' fishing and RC Boats (cars, planes) and its not something i would consider..

You might also want to check out your States Fishing regulations first..

CA regs state "close attended fishing pole / rod".. Its how a Fish and Game warden would view an RC Boat with a line attached and would it be 'attended'..

Why am i thinking 'Orca'.... and being dragged backwards..

well, i plan to attach an extremly small fishing pole to the boat in helping with the fish jerking....

I only plan on spending $100 for this little venture, $70 for the boat and $30 for extra stuff
I cant believe this has not been done yet...

wac,
Try looking here;
www.vac-u-boat.com
It's been done, but like was mentioned, it ain't exactly the best/smartest thing to do. But possible!
- 'Doc

PS - Yes, I've done it. Once, just to say I have. Even caught a fish! A small one, thankfully. Considering my luck fishing, I don't know why I was worried. Then again, considering my luck in general, I'm surprised I didn't loose the boat - lol.

A few things to consider IF you do try it..

A way of paying out line to 'play' the fish

A way of 'quick release' so you can cut the line if you hook that 8lb cat, carp etc.. or even the bottom of the lake and end up doing an 'Arrow'..:p

I am planning to attach my fish rod line to the back of my tug and have a quick release via a weak link in case I snag a tree top or hook a fish. I will actually be trolling a small lure with the boat out beyond my casting range. Once I get a fish on...I will take over the fight with the pole on shore. This will be at a private pond so no need to worry about the law. I will get pics when I do get this setup going.

Can I paint a fish on the tug if I hook one? :p

Do a search for "bait boat" on the internet; there was some discussion on bait boats (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/search.php?searchid=10614069) on these boards too. The concept is popuar in England. Most have two hoppers for bait or chum, and a quick release for your hook. Looks like a 4 channel radio is standard: motor control; rudder control; dump hopper #1; dump hopper #2.

Darn, someone beat me to recommending the VacUBoat site. Several years ago,I remember seeing a story about some 5'-6' Sportfisherman in Texas. It had a small fishing pole in back with a reel.I believe someone was selling these boats RTR for big $$$.

a guy named Carl Nordling set up several boats for rc angling. you can read more about it at:

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3918/is_200004/ai_n8893653

i'm also pretty sure there's a vid of one of his boats in action at www.radiocontrolzone.com but that site isn't loading for me right now.

The difference with Carl's boat and my idea is I will only use the boat to pull the bait around with while it is still attached to my hand held rod until I get a bite. Once I get a bite it will detach the bait from the tow boat and the fight is on! I just want to get at the fish out of casting range at the local pond.

I wonder if ole Carl ever got rich with his RC Fishin Boat idea? :)

Rather than a weak link of string or thread, how about just placing the fishing line in a slit in a piece of rubber attached to the tug? From my reading of knot strength tests, it's hard to get consistant breakaway values for line, I believe.

I'll bet that if you do a search, You'll find somebody who did it with a R/C helicopter.

I have seen some videos but they were fish under 3 inches... i just ordered a NQD Hydro boat and i plan on putting 2x 600 speed motors in it .. it would like to catch fish around a foot ....

I can see it now---- i get a fish on the line and end up draging the fish on top of the water at 30 mph....

We use outrigger clips for what you are talking about. Some are for tying into an outrigger line, and others for mounting on the hull to pull what we call a flat line pulled from the transom (lower angle, a little different action, sometimes allows lure/bait to dive slightly.) The tension is adjustable for different size baits or wx conditions. Buy a good one and it will "pop" at the same tension every time. With a model boat you would want to set the tension VERY light! As many times as I have seen fishing lines (6-7 lines)tangled by turning to fast, I can just imagine me trying this with a model

This would be enough of a nightmare.. and no, a brushless wouldnt hold this 12 lb'er..

last time I heard about someone hooking a good size fish...the only thing that got tired was the batt.s, the boat's owner recovered the boat on the other side of lake siriously tangled in the weeds.

i did it with my float equipped brushless slow stick. had it up at the property, landed on the water, had a top water fly dragging below it. was catching small (3 inch) perch all day. Kinda mean flying them up about 30 foot, then landing back in the water with it and taxiing to myself. but...it worked.

wouldnt try anything large...fish only if you know SMALL things will bite. EX: Perch.

The users of the bait boats in England would find a "mere" 12 lb carp not worth the effort. From memory it had to be at least 20 lb to be a specimen and when I was last in England the record stood at over 50 lbs. Mind you, there were strong rumours that the "chum" was laced with steroids and growth hormones.

...the State record here is

Carp, Grass 70 lbs 4/12/1999 Lake Martin Michael S. White, Jr.,

Caught a little 12lb one the other day on 4lb ultralight equipment from the bank...whooowho...loads of fun. :D

Well i Purcased another boat NQD PX-16, its a Cat so it should be able to run in choppy water and be a rescue boat
.. Yesterday, I went down to the pond where i plan to do some rc fishing and got did some standard fishing with rod and reel and cought a 12'' rainbow. The fight was pretty uneventfull and i can imagine that the boat will be fighting with the fish for only a couple of seconds at a time.
The shipper for the hydro didnt get my boat out until yesterday so ill probably get the boat on friday and be able to post some video friday night....
Also i won the auction on ebay for the 2 motors and 2x30A esc for only $58.00. They are coming from hong kong so i guess it will be a while until i get those...

The only fish I catch with my boats, are the ones that get stuck on the knife-blade rudders I use on my fast electrics.

The boat suddenly bogs down as if a bucket was lowered, I limp back to shore and remove the 'huge' sliced up fish (1/2" at the most) and continue running the boat.

As the rudders are prepped to swivel up on impact, an encounter with a carp causes the rudder to sweep horizontal, leaving the boat virtually unstearable, I can get the boat back, but that's all.

Regards, Jan.

I just cut a bunch of aluminum for aguys rc boat thathe uses in the ocean. He uses it to take his line out past the surf. Its huge! Its powered by a trolling motor off a bass boat(gas powered?) It had to have atleast 26" wide. he uses a jet ski sand trailer to launch it.
